About This is an unusual photograph for me since it is directly from the CCD, no PS work at all except for the resizing.

Santispac beach, New Year's eve, 5:55 PM. I ran from the car past some huts to the beach and started shooting. I met some nice people from Colorado who let me use their wave runner and chairs as stabilization.

I've heard how wonderful Mexican sunsets can be...now I see for myself.
With a different boat and sky this could be one of my favorite beaches in southern Thailand that are now saddly ravaged.

Hi Michael, superbly tranquil scene, and the radiant sunset and consistency of tone is beautiful. No PS, heh? What'll you leave for us to uphaul, then...? Just out of curiosity; on what sharpening level is your camera set? If i look closely at the transition between mountains and sky on the right, there seems to be a slight halo, that might be misinterpreted as an effect of oversharpening...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo:

I use the sharpening filter in PS after reducing the size of the image to bring out the details on all my images - it does introduce artifacts at times, that is probably what you are seeing. I have noticed that the CCD does interpolate a halo into hard lines with strong channel differences because of the interpolation between the R G and B pixels on the CCD at times... but it is very slight and was probably enhanced through the filter.

Thanks Bart:

I checked out your three published photographs. I really like Desert Crossing - I think it was one of the first of your photos I ever dropped a note on when I first joined UF, still a great image, and a welcome source for combining elements effectively.

Hugo,

Forgot to mention I took about 1600 pictures in my 13 days, so you will have plenty of material to zing on as time moves on...

i just feel like the sky is burning at a side and begins to be clear at the other side. Nice shot and nice sunset on beach Mexico...

michael, this one is a beauty! reminds me of growing up in the dominican republic. i can almost smell the food cooking in a deep-frier.

tom

*sigh* Mexican sunsets can be gorgeous and you've captured it nicely! Wonderful warm tones and awesome reflections! I'm glad you made a bee-line to get this shot before the colors changed!

wondeful photo, just stunning capture you have here, wondering how you like your D70, Iv been contemplating getting one.

Michael Kanemoto   {K:22103} 6/7/2005
M.A.:

The D70 works well for me - no complaints here. Keep in mind that a lot of these UF shots are brought in through Photoshop and balanced for colors, saturation, and brightness and contrast.

After downscaling them to 800 pixels I also sometimes run a sharpening pass to pop the details back out.

The 18-70 kit lens has also served me well.
