What an amazingly intimate portrait Margaret, quite the best photo of it's type I've seen (the joy of sharing expectancy with a sibling). I don't know if you copied the concept from anywhere else but what you put together is superb even graphically never mind emotively. The parallel lines and the curve of the tummy, the mass of light skin and the small area of dark hair, the alignment and space of the girls eyes on a diagonal to that of the wider space of the nipples. It works on every level and should be a publishers dream. Intriguing that you needed to add grain with the 400iso but works well. Really excellent and best of luck and joy with the coming event. Ian

Ian thanks for your comment - I had not thought of it in quite so much detail. This was a portrait job, and the expectant mother had seen a shot from this angle with the crossed legs filled with flowers. Well, I thought her daughter made a better focus of attention, so this is the result. The customer absolutely adores it. I think it became more of a shot about relationships than a pregnant belly shot, which is why I like it. And 2 amazing eyes are a better attention-grabber than a bunch of flowers. BTW, this was a C-41 process film, so even though it is 400ISO it is virtually grainless. I think that the grain has helped to even out the skin tones. Pregnant bellies can get a bit blotchy.

Oh yes the girl makes the photo so much better than flowers would have done. I was for a moment wondering if you would have taken that photo of yourself :) But not only was your idea to put her daughter in there a great idea, but the way you shot it and the light is excelent. Yes the grain does help.
It must be wonderful and rewarding for you too to have clients like that. Doing work for clients is can be a tightrope walk. You might have the most wonderful ideas and situations and take good photos, but the clients wanted something different.

Yes David - it is not easy finding clients who challenge your own creativity. This Mum was fantastic. I only do the odd portrait job. But just in case you are interested, this image was taken outside on the grass, on a rainy day. Nature provides the best lighting!!

Awesome shot. It just screams innocence. From the breasts and tummy of the mommy, to the bright eyes and even brighter smile of the child this image is all about pure unfettered love. I have seen quite a few images of this type, but none so well done. Very nice.
