Hihi... Ned, the reason I could take this photo was that it's not a real wasp or bee! It's a hover fly, and they can't sting. They just try to look like wasps/bees but they are harmless.

Really?? (That you don't have) I thought they were so common everywhere, almost like flies! They look like a mix between a bee and a fly. Their faces usually have big eyes like power puff girls! But they are not very interested in us (like flies and wasps) they only concentrate on flowers. Maybe that's why you haven't noticed them? Or maybe you really don't have them?
They are also called flower flies.
