About I was thinking why simple things are beautiful while others seems meaningless
I found that maybe Inner-Calm could add some meaning to simplicity.
P.S. taken in Ibn Tulun mosque

Khaled Mursi Hammoud   {K:53382} 1/10/2005
Hi Nour,
Good composition, I like the angle from which you captured it showing the shadow of the arch on the wall and the lantern with it's shadow and the shadow of another lantern (not included in the shot) are all in one oblique line.
Keep up the good work,
Khaled.

This is our first , but hopfully not our last meeting on the pages of "Usefilm", Mr.El Rafai. Melike. I took the opportunity to read your bio, in which you tell that you are an architect who prefers taking phtos over drwing with a pencil. I also looked through your portfolio. That part was easy, because there were only two pages, but difficult because both good had good photos and it was hard to select one to comment on. I finally settled on this one because I liked the relative simplicity of its lines and simplicitiy, I've been told more than once, is the secret of beauty in art.
You are, of course, invited to read my bio and pay further visits to my portfolio.
In the meantime, I thank you for your friendly comment on my "Upstairs and downstairs."
Best regards,
Dr. Rafael (Rafi for future communications) Springmann

Khaled Al Harbi   {K:-163} 2/1/2005

Thanks Rafi, it is nice to know somebody from the feild of psychology, i am really intereseted in that and always relates it to Architecture.
i appreciate your words

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:87618} 2/1/2005
You wtote in your reply to my comment that you were interested in psychology. It is obvious that you read my bio and saw my e mail address there. Yours is also in your bio, so if you send me an e mail with the words "your book" in the subject line, I can send you my book, which despite its name was written with the non mental-health professional also in mind, per e mail (1.02 mb) at no cost to you.
Best regards,
Rafi Springmann

Nour El Refai   {K:12631} 2/1/2005

Nour,

Wonderful image. This "three" image pattern is something I seem to have spotted several times in the last few days in nature (see my Swan Patterns photo), and there is something soothing and appealing about it.

Many thanks for your comments on my "Natural Patterns (2)" image.

Neil

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 5/4/2005
The first time I visit a portfolio, I look for a favorite to say something about. This is one of the images that called out to me from a distance. Your about says a lot about how I feel, and the same question comes to mind, "why do simple things seem beautiful while others seem meaningless." It is a simple question and there is much beauty in its answer: "Less is more." Life doesn't have to be so complicated to enrich our spirits. This image is enriching to my spirit. The composition, detail, color, shadows (especially the echoed shadow), are calming. There is a mystical feel for sure. (And now I'm afraid I may have said too much :)

Antonia

Nour El Refai   {K:12631} 5/4/2005
thank you Antonia for this wonderful comment
(Life doesn't have to be so complicated to enrich our spirits) your words, it wasn't an easy conclusion for me, they say i am a complicated person

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 5/5/2005
oh..Nour, I think being too complicated is a struggle for most. Just keep reminding yourself of the KISS principle. (You probably know it: Keep it Simple Stupid, except a friend of mine tells me that it is insulting that way and I should say "Keep it Simple Silly," but it just doesn't have the same humor for me that way -- It's my personal mantra you know. I repeat to myself daily. Cheers. Antonia

Nour El Refai   {K:12631} 5/5/2005
i know what you mean, thanks again my friend Antonia

Perfect timing AGAIN,and may i say that u hv a very observing eye of light&shadow...and how its formed differently on objects...and last but not least, its a realy very neat and CALM composition, well done :)
