wow - there is nothing that approaches the coolness of superwide perspective - that is one reason I have found it hard to go the DSLR route..I'll breakdown soon - but would miss my wides...back to your image - I love it the perspective is, as you say, out of this world - well done - K

Unmistakably yours....:) With the sigma 14 mm, why would you need a 17-35mm? I woul love to get my hands on the 10.5mm, though....:)
The wide angle is perfectly used here. Very strong atmosphere of a downtown hood....
Charles Bronson? Death Wish?
As to your consideration, I'm glad you rejected the idea of deleting everything around it. Instead, I think blurring the background a bit (more?) could work to the same effect...

A very striking photograph Thilo, the composition suggests this might not be the place you want to be in the hours of darkness !!

I do not know why... but first the title and them the thumbnail, I new it was you Thilo... :)
Excellent composition... Do the extreme wide angel gives it a really weird and fascinating mars look... I have not read others opinions yet, but I love that you left the surroundings, it tells the story pretty well...

no, this is not a fish-eye =)
a fish-eye normally delivers a 180 degrees angle, and this would turn the subject into a really weird thing. the 14mm delivers IMHO a reasonable angle so that the people on the borders don't look too strange.

gorgeous work Thilo...
this extreme wide angle and the composition are wonderful, and seem to compliment each other very well here. i wouldn't change a thing here by the way. considering your comments, i've been looking at this shot with the idea of cropping portions-i think you could crop this a number of ways and come up with well balanced images, but i like it best as is.

das ist das geile, aber auch fiese an 14mm. man kann schwer erkennen, ob ein motiv funktioniert... bis man durch das 14mm durchschaut. aber da schaust du nicht lange durch, ohne einen fön zu bekommen =)

actually, this building is not left. inside, you will find the mars bars, a typical NYC bar =) not sure about the surounding buildings though.

the use of the 14mm is very limited if you hunt down the streets. so sometimes, I use the 18-35mm to get a better focus (if hardcore wide angle is not necessary) =)
