hey Steve, nice image, interesting little story well presented

may be 'humor' is American, ya gotta make some concessions

I'm more interested in Usefilm's idea that 1/250 is 'normal'

Debby Biri   {K:4775} 1/30/2005
Steve, this is a terrific shot. I love the rippled water and the clarity of the birds. -- Debby

Good photo taken with exellent light. On what dit you focus and witch metering mode was used?

Alex Rubin   {K:312} 1/31/2005
Very nice!
Did you have to wait for them to pose properly or was it just luck? ;-)
Soundly composed image with a fine idea behind it.

Steve Tomkinson   {K:3225} 2/1/2005
Total luck Alex!!

10 seconds later they all woke up to watch a swan sail past. I tried to photograph it, but the autofocus chose the swan & I didn't get the shot I would have liked.

Regards
Steve

Peter

I focussed on the middle bird. The metering mode would have been partial "()" and probably a little exposure compensation +2 clicks, I would guess, as it was into the sun.
Regards
Steve.

Gorgeous! I love the clarity of the birds and the
dof is right on! Caption is very fitting!

Margaret Sturgess   {K:49403} 2/6/2005
Perhaps it is to do with your deodorant !!!!! Fabulous and funny but such an excellent composition, so sharp and great DOF, you did well to get a feeling of so much colour, when you would have expected the gulls to almost blend in the with water

Hi Margaret,
Many thanks for all your comments. I think the word here is luck. As per the comments above, a few seconds later a swan sailed by & they all turned round to watch. I tried to capture but autofocus & inexperience meant a throw-away (this is the most common part of my 'work-flow' !!). My New Years Resolution, if I had one would be to throw away a bit less!

Amitava Banerjea   {K:7076} 2/18/2005
Beautiful shot. Can't think of any thing to say that hasn't been said already.

Autofocus can be a pain in the neck sometimes as you have noted. Sometimes I'm forced to switch to manual even if my viewfinder isn't optimal for the job.

Great shot. I like composition very much. Regards
