About In Arizona they are called Jumping Cholla as you get near them and they seem to reach out and grab you. Extremely hard to get the barbs out. I got some in my shoes and had to use pliers to get them out.

Very nice capture, Don! I like the lighting you used here, seems to be an aura around the cacti. Maybe that's the danger zone! Well done!
Dave.

The backlighting on the cactuses (Cacti?) really adds to the image, Don. I've been around these before and you are right, you just don't want to be too close.

Sounds creepy, like some kind of alien creatures! Sure makes a beautiful picture though, great capture!

A wonderful desert shot Don-- I really like the back lighting and the foreground shadows of the chollas. It reminds me of a Steve McQueen movie where he said he knew a fellow who took all his clothes off and jumped on a cholla cactus "because it seemed like the thing to do at the time"-- just can't imagine the pain of that! Cheers. Craig

If you jump on one of these you might not get off. They are so painful when they stick you. It is like they paralyze you with stuck with them.
Thanks. Don.

I realize how different are our environmental treats when on a shooting.
I like the light on the spines - or barbs. Great saturated colours add something here.
I'm also impressed by the sharpness you give to your pictures. I think you have a perfect workflow here.

Larry Fosse   {K:65815} 1/31/2005
Reminds me of the brooms in the Sorcerers Apprentice...well done

Great display, I like how you kept the sky out to lessen the distraction and keep you eyes on the main subject. I am glad to add you to my friends list.
