There are many noise recucers out there. Almost impossible to test all of them. Noise Ninja has a good reputation (I tried it a little and was very happy with the result). Kodak's digital GEM (they have a demo version) didn't work for me. The results were not too good.

Noise & film grain reduction is such a big thing that I don't understand why Adobe doesn't have anything in PS.

Thanks, David! I know that PSP 9 has an awesome noise removal tool, but I use 8 and can't afford to purchase 9! I will look into the noise ninja.

just a quick update on the noise filters...
Here is a web page of someone who tested 18 different programs. His review is 11 pages. If you don't want to read through all of it, here is the last page with his conclusions.

I did some research on noise reduction.

Here is a link to a person who has tested almost all noise reducers. Noise Ninja, Neat Image and Grain Surgery are his winners.

I tried Neatimage and Noise Ninja and found them to be very similar. The result is so much alike that it seem they are using the same algorithms :) The most basic version of Neatimage is less expensive, for the professional package Noise Ninja is less expensive. Neat Image was slower and for some reason I liked the controlls of Noise Ninja better.

I hope I have confused you more :)

Fun.

Have you tried neatimage? You can download it for free i think! You did really well though with the backlight in this image. Did you use a flash?
