About Had a little more creative go at photoshop on this pic. I reworked the photo adding a translucent background layer containing wrinkled paper. I think it makes for a very interesting effect. Any comments most welcome

Mmm the effect is nice, but maybe you should have either decreased or increased the tones on her face... IMHO the paper texture should have been either more homogeneous with her face or well separated from it. It's just my opinion :-)
I tried to make "my" version of it...

Coincido con Fabrizio. Mejora mucho con mayor contraste.
Aún así tu trabajo es muy bueno.
Felicitaciones!

Wow! Great retouch. Now you are going to have to tell me how you did that! I agree that it looks much better when increasing the tones on the girl's face. Thanks for the tip

Luis, I'm glad you liked my version... what I did was very simple. Using gimp (www.gimp.org) I adjusted levels with the "auto set" function, then I trimmed the black color against the woman's hair, and that was it! :-)

The foto needs some comments, the model none!

I like it the way it is.
The low contrast and softness give an old world dreamlike quality.
Plus its a beautiful portrait as well.

Thank you David for your comment. I like both versions. But I agree with you that the original has a smoother touch and makes the girl appear more welcoming and attentive. The high contrast one accentuates her beauty but looses the dreamlike quality as you very well described it. Thanks for your comment,
Rgds,
Luis
