About Just back from a fabulous weekend in Venice! An amazing place that really is as beautiful as the photographs make it appear. This is a gondola travelling up the Grand Canal that runs through the heart of the city. It's about 30 minutes before sunset and I've used 5 stops of ND grad filters to balance the bright sky and buildings with the shaded foreground.

This came out very good, certainly in the shadowparts .. very good example using ND grad filters .. already saw what they do when making an IR shot on my Sony .. using ND4 / ND8 and combining them .. will order some for my 300D too !

Wonderful photo Barry, just like the dozens of others posted to your portfolio. Can you tell me what type of ND grad filter system you used for this shot--circular or square? Thanks.

Barry Wakelin   {K:7838} 2/2/2006
Thanks for the comment Warren. In general ND grads are rectangular to allow one to move the transition to the most appropriate position in the image. I used Cokin Z Pro filters in a Lee Filters holder.
