Thanks Cary, As you know, this ice starts to get a bit boring by about the end of Feb.

Yes is does Andre, and I have tried to make something of that stuff, but If you watch, some nice lighting occurs early and late in the day, have fun and keep shooting, CAry

I feel cold looking at this! Beautiful capture...I like the blues very much, as well as the tonality.

Hi Toni, The shot was taken just a couple of miles away from where whe live. The blues are pretty accurate. getting the colour from the sky I guess. The only thing I did to this shot is added a little contrast to the shadow areas. Andre

A very dramatic shot, yes it makes one feel cold just perusing it. Is that the escarpemnt we can see on the horizon? Alan M.

Hi Alan, Thanks for the comment. I never really thought that much about it before, but it does kind of look like a far off escarpment in the background. But, no, it is just some of the distant cloud formation. There is only horizon in that area. Almost like a mirage :) Andre

Andre, lovely composition. I may have considdered slightly less exposure to help give a cooler feel to the photo. Excellent, nonetheless...

Hi Bryan, Thanks for the comment Bryan. I'm wondering if that may be a monitor issue Your version shows up to me as loosing some detail in a lot of the scene. Possibly it looks fine on your monitor while my version looks a little over-exposed to you. It is so hard to tell whithout comparing side to side. Andre

Featured Critique It is so difficult to get a good exposure with harsh lighting. I didnt feel that the loss of the dark detail was a problem as the real value in the photo to me is in the cool icy blue water and shadows and catching the whole feel of the place. A cooling filter may have helped as well. Let me have another go anyhow.
I now used the Shadow/highligh feature to bring the exposure down without loosing so much detail, and then added a cooling filter. Just my 2c worth...

Bryan, The second attempt shows up much better on my monitor than the first one did. Congrats on making the featured Critique! Hang on for the views and comments. Andre

I love the detail in the orginal shot of the ice on the rocks but Brayns edit brings out the ice on the shore which I never noticed before. We don't get ice like that here. A wonderful shot. Well done Bryan on featured comment.

Thanks Alison, Believe it or not, there are no rocks in this scene. It is all solid ice. You can only see a very little water near the horizon where the lake never freezes. BTW You are lucky not to have any like this where you live. We are getting a little tired of it by now. Also something I've never mentioned before, the ice actually does have that natural blue hue to it from the influence of the sky. Andre

Oh my goodness you are joking I thought those big lumps were "beach rocks" topped with ice. Amazing and totally beyond my conception of ice like that. Incredible. I thought it strange the waves breaking onto ice. lmao Ignorance is bliss. I am stunned. Wonderful shot.

Hi Alison, Later on this afternoon I will dig up a couple more shots of the same shoot and attach them to this thread. You will get a clearer look at the over-all scene. Andre

Alison, This over-view will give you an idea of what the shore line looks like on Lake Ontario in early Feb. From the lower left moving to the upper right, we have first some dead grass and snow covered rocks, then solid ice over the sand and partial freezing out about 50 yards, (depending on the depth of water) Then there is the water that never freezes. The large lumps that you thought were rocks are large ice chunks that get carried around in the wind and waves and then freeze in place on a still cold day. Andre

Thanks for the information Luigi.
I have an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner that I use. I find scanning prints at 400dpi is good enough for submission to websites too.
