A very poetic demonstration of composition, line, tone and balance. It looks very much like a mediterranean keyboard with muted tonings. The negative space behind the stairs really engages the viewer to a Baroque dramatic diagonal structure. Well done Paul.
Cheers, Tom from Oz.

I've got a very spring-like photo I took yesterday for you, Kristina. Stay tuned.

Paul Lara   {K:86876} 2/6/2005
Yeah, what Tom said! ;)

Thanks Tom. As soon as I rounded the corner, this popped into view, and in less than a second, this image was in my head, so I cranked the exposure value down to -2 and it was the best of the bunch. Only the tiniest crop to straighten the horizon.

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 2/6/2005
Very good light/shadow contrast. The steps form an interesting pattern.

Mr. M    {K:5517} 2/6/2005

Perfect!

Paul Lara   {K:86876} 2/6/2005
Thanks; I was just using the lines already given me. ;)

It IS very fun when you turn your head, and suddenly 'see' your next image.

Amy Nicolai   {K:3432} 2/7/2005
Paul, what a nice composition! I love the texture on the stairs. Amy

Melanie Reynolds   {K:9090} 2/8/2005
Paul, this is EXCELLENT! I REALLY, really like this image. The composition is perfect, the lines work so well, and the contrasts with the natural light on the stairs, and the netrail tones... all of it works so well together. Really great shot! You should be proud of this one )

Paul Lara   {K:86876} 2/8/2005
I am, Melanie. Thanks.
It's one of those moments you instantly visualize the shot, but don't know until you see it on the monitor later that day that it ...WORKED!

Marcia .   {K:16108} 2/9/2005
Great composition!
I liked it.

Thank you for your comment.

Best regards,
Márcia.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaa!
(that's my Digital Rebel yell upon seeing this amazing photo)

Paul, this is a superb abstract - fantastic, the way you based it on the repeating arcs -both the real ones and the ones made simply of shadow. Wonderful texture in the stone.

First-rate composition. I put a blue ribbon on this one.

Best regards,
SteveR
