COOOOOL graphic result - i really like that - and i also appreciate your tilting....it made it difficult to see what it as and i had to look for a long and then i realised that i have to turn my head. Really excellent abstract!

Amazing how much a 90 degree rotation has changed the associations and feeling that this image evokes! While it's quite nice in it's original orientation (very nice actually!), it remains somewhat 'literal'. This rotated version, on the other hand, sparks the imagination to see many other things - I see a shadowed wall or barrier of some sort, it's integrity briefly compromised by the ripples as a small portal opens to the 'other side' (I could get all sci-fi with this! :)
OK - I've used up all my big words for the day.

:) that was a fun comment to read, Dirck. I'm glad you had some fun inside my image. It was a fluke that I put it up as I was trying to make a background for something else and when this happened I got lost in it myself...and thought..what the heck...put it up as an abstract. So it really tickles me that you enjoyed it too. Perhaps I'll do a series with it and take it to the other realm... Thanks.

Thanks, Jeanette. It is interesting that you and others notice that it is sideways. When I tilted it, I thought that it could have been captured from that perspective as well. What if I were standing at that angle when I took the shot...is it not possible? It happens that I did take the shot from the other direction, and I also naturally want to look at it the other way. But there isn't any reason we couldn't have stood and seen it this way... an interesting phenomenon!

I just figured out why we all know it is sideways!!!!! It's the shape of the elipse...it is really round when looking at it from above, and with perspective, the foreshortening occurs such that the elipse is wider than it is long from our natural viewpoint...why didn't I think of that before!?

Hello again! :) I think the perspective gives it away - had you shot it from what is now the bottom of the picture, the rings in the puddle would be slightly wider there instead of at the right.
Sorry - I'm not usually so tedious! Don't know what's gotten into me today :)

Dirck...thanks for the explanation and redline illustration! It just dawned on me and I posted a reply to Jeannette about my epiphany regarding the perspective on the elipse before yours went up... perhaps the brain waves from you traversed the planet and I picked them up, as it occurred to me just as you were putting this together for me!!! Hmmmmmm.... one for the "x" files...lol. You are so right!

I like the way it is presented also - thought at first it was the trunk of a tree, I nearly started counting the rings to see how old it was lol
