Timing is everything...or with that set-up, which I also have, its 5 fps and hope for the best, lol! Excellent stop action before the plunge...I have some in flight but not when they are ready to hit. Colors and clarity are super and you were blessed with great lighting. Nicely done! Regards, Jim.

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 2/12/2005
Very good capture of the bird in flight. Colors, light and details are all great.

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/12/2005
Thanks Enas It was a last minute decision to desaturate, I kept looking at the two trying to decide whice one to use the full color or this one...

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/12/2005
Thanks Jim your are right this was one in the middle of a 10 shot burst, the 20D can do 23 frames at 5fps, makes it a little easier....

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/12/2005
Thanks Jasmine, No I wish I did get him with a fish but he came up empty....

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/12/2005
Thanks larry, actually I was in the middle of a burst of 10 shots and this was the only decent one....

Larry Fosse   {K:65863} 2/12/2005
I would suspect if I were trying this I'd be lucky for such a good capture in 10 shots

Nando Mondino   {K:13989} 2/12/2005
Fantastic capture!

Linn Currie   {K:24426} 2/12/2005

Well done (again!) Marcus :-)
Linn

Frits Selier   {K:455} 2/12/2005
superb moment, great technique

Steve Tomkinson   {K:3225} 2/12/2005
Just when I thought you couldn't get any better, you raise the bar so high I have to look straight upwards to see it...

Amazed there's no motion blur at 1/500... Think I need to move to California, the laws of photography, and physics seem to be so much better there.... 8 out of 7 my friend.

andree lerat   {K:16818} 2/13/2005
Love the special effect you've done to the background. It really emphasizes the sharpnes of the Pelican. Beautiful capture. Now, did he get the fish?

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/13/2005
Thanks Andree, I wish I had a shot of him with a big fish in his mouth, but I think he came up empty.....

Den Thompson   {K:30432} 2/13/2005
This shot is so unbeluevable I'm totally lost for words Marcus. I'm in full agreement with Steve Tomkinson on this. You just keep pushing the boundaries further and further away. Just keep it up cos we all enjoy seeing the results.
Den

Eric Hellsing   {K:1076} 2/13/2005

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 2/17/2005
well I use to shoot landscapes and portraits for years, I became like work to me, so I started shooting wildlife, then I found bird to be very challenging and fun, so I have stuck with it. I have had 5 shots go to press, for American wildlife Calendar company. and some misc awards from different contests, but the UF crew dosent show me much love LOL.... take care....

Judi Liosatos   {K:34029} 2/17/2005
Aww..I wouldn't say that...!! Whilst the award givers might not appreciate what you capture...the rest of us do.

Judi

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/8/2005
The color detail and focus on this bird is spectacular. This can be an ugly pose, I've done it....but you captured it beautifully. The lighting is perfect, very little shadow, wonderful...I've been trying to get a tern or a seagull, they are very hard to capture, because no pun intended, but they can be very flighty, one minute you have them and the next minute they're gone...I love your birds Marcus, and I'm not at all bothered by the desaturation of the background, if anything I think it brings even more attention to this exciting bird....Outstanding! :) Linda
