Cool! You really sense the tension here. My blood pressure increases just by looking at this! Did you touch this up, or are the ripple effects from exhaust fumes?

Paul Lara   {K:86864} 2/22/2005
Ripples are from heat waves rising from the pavement, but that is made more noticeable due to telephoto compression.

Glad you like it!

Neil Holden   {K:602} 2/22/2005
Unusual view.. lovely colours give this shot plenty of impact.. good work.

Rebecca Raybon   {K:26645} 2/22/2005
Very nice effects. You can almost feel the heat..smell the fumes...feel that ROAD RAGE coming on! lol... Great job!

Gabrielle Willson   {K:7975} 2/22/2005
I knew this was yours from the thumbnail.
Great! Reminds me of a childs painting

Bradley Prue   {K:30312} 2/22/2005
Incredible perspective and movement! .Brad

Jeff Fiore   {K:12247} 2/22/2005
Nice! And you didn't even need photoshop!

Kevin Collier   {K:19076} 2/22/2005
...that's why I don't like to drive - the shimmering really gives the feel of sitting there with broken air conditioning on a 98 degree day sitting on black vinyl seats -- nice one - K

Frank Beer   {K:10112} 2/22/2005
Very interesting effect, that kept my interest, Paul!
First I thaught it would be very hot at that location ...

Cheers, Frank

Erik Neldner   {K:10896} 2/23/2005
very effective!

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 2/25/2005
Looks like there are heat waves in this image. Creative photo idea. Colors are rich and vivid.

Trish McCoy   {K:15897} 2/26/2005
nicely done. a very neat image.

Neal Nye   {K:15827} 2/26/2005
Hard to imagine capturing the feeling of claustrophobia any more effectively than this. What a great effect!

Tom Ross   {K:6483} 2/26/2005
Paul, I like the effect. I always like the look of heat waves distorting an image, but this exaggerated look is really unique, especially with the intense colors.

Amy Nicolai   {K:3432} 2/26/2005
Looks like August in Houston, in rush hour. Very intersting effect! Amy

Like an oil painting

Very nice shot and effect as if I can feel the heat wave on the road. I am rather suprised at your super Zoom Lens 1400mm. How did you do it I just wonder.

Paul Lara   {K:86864} 3/3/2005
Fan,
One of the things that pushed me from film to Digital was the great lens that comes with this camera. I can go from 38 to 380mm optically, and then I have a 3x digital beyond that, which induces normally undesirable blurring and artifacts. I think it enhances my long-range road shots with a sort of mysterious and tense mood.

karen clarke   {K:18915} 3/4/2005
What an amazing result, like a painting! I am feeling rather impatient just looking at the photo. I can hear the horns honking and the people cursing. Well done~

Carlos     {K:12969} 3/4/2005
Karen is spot on ? this is a painting disguised as photograph? Great.

Very cool - I love how clear it looks in the thumbnail and then you get a bonus with the full view. A 2-in-1 shot!
Thanks for your comment elsewhere.

Mark Julian   {K:36430} 3/8/2005
Good one Paul - would make a good Stock Shot. This could be anytown USA (lukily I don't have to deal with this type of mess - Thank God) Good Work.Mark

carolina silberschmidt   {K:1085} 3/8/2005
you made a nice picture of a bad, bad thing... traffic!!
like the blurred cars contrasting with the school bus (at least, it's what seems to me).

Paul Lara   {K:86864} 3/8/2005
Thanks, Carolina!
Yeah, I love how extremely long lenses compress distances like this. An 'artistic' consequence of using a consumer-level camera is the artifacting and noise I get when I max it out like this, so I'm learning when to try and accomplish this 'effect' in camera. ;)
