About Subject background: A lake near Nuernberg, seen through an IR filter.

PS concept: By chance, I discovered a "new" technique when combining a color and an IR picture of the same scene... Hope you like the outcome.

Special equipment: Hoya R72, tripod

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated

Mmm, yes seems to work well, the soft colour tones make the magic here ! There is just too little IR effect to my taste to make it a great IR shot (just the rim of the lake) but it is nevertheless a very good shot with a lovely composition and great mood !

hey peter,

thanks for the honest comment. stay tuned, I will upload a "real" IR of that scene as well ;-)

actually, the IR part contributes a lot to the outcome... but that can only be seen in PS when looking at the two layers ;-)

Thilo,
Lovely winter scene. I would like to see the IR version to understand the impact. This one seems to have a kind or iridescent effect which is very pleaseing. I never experimented with IR but this is making me think to try.
Regards,
Omar

Nice effect, Thilo.

To me it seems there's a little too much dark water. I would be tempted to zoom in tighter. Hope you don't mind:

Hi Angelo,

when I just The Lake 2, you will know why I opt for the widescreen version in the first edition ;-)

anyway, good proposal. If I would post just one picture of this scene, I would definitely follow your idea.

take care,

thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 2/27/2005
Hi Gaja,

thanks for the feedback. the softness comes from the long exposure and the trees moving by the wind.

Almost like a natural scene, without IR. Nice wintry mood!

Thanks for your comment Thilo ... I still hear Marlene Dietrich singing :)

Stephen Bowden   {K:64513} 2/27/2005
Very good effect Thilo, would love to hear how you still maintain colour while using the R72.

Very interested on what effects you used :-)

Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Best wishes,
Steve

It does look very nice, but brrrr so cold! Wonderful reflections!

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 3/2/2005
hi steve,

the infrared picture shows mostly red tones ;-)

when you switch the channel (R=>B; B=>R), you get a cyan-like image with some reds in it.

best wishes,

thilo
