About March 8, 2005. Hard to imagine that this is one of the best windsurfing beaches in the Georgian Triangle.

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/9/2005
Thanks Fadel. I was going to try the digital trick of using your hand for a grey card, but it was too cold!!!!! I had to just trust the Nikon on this one.

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/9/2005
Thanks Gianna.

Wonderful whites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great textures!
Good work!
Greetings.

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/9/2005
Thank you so much for noticing Maria. I have been working hard on getting the white of the snow correct.

CorrieLynn Jacobsen   {K:9882} 3/9/2005
So BLEAK! But very very good image. The composition is wonderful, and the color is rich. Everything is so sharply focused too. Seeing this REALLY makes me hope spring will hurry up and get here, so we can start windsurfing again!!

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/9/2005
Thanks Corrie.

Tim  Schumm   {K:29021} 3/10/2005
great compositon Richard, looks like you are enjoying your D70

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/10/2005
Thanks Tim. I am enjoying the D70 very much. I am especially impressed with the 18-70G, which is march sharper than one would normally expect from a lens included in the kit.

audra  erin   {K:3768} 3/11/2005
You windsurf..? My dad windsurfs. When he was in his twentys he lived in Hawaii and surfed...but now he's old and needs something to hold on to.
tee hee. This is an amazing shot Richard..whats wrong with me?? I never comment on your stuff..what a little snot I am. 7

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/11/2005
That's okay (not commenting I mean), we have such different styles. I actually quit windsurfing about 10 years ago, when I started racing bicycles seriously. Spent too much time sitting on the beach waiting for the right wind conditions (long story, very boring).

audra  erin   {K:3768} 3/11/2005
Like waiting for water to boil huh?..my Dad is REALLY into it..he 's always listening to wind conditions on the radio..all summer long...then he wears a wetsuit when it first gets cold...he's
in the water till mid October some years!

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/11/2005
Maybe worse. I spent most of my days for 3 summers sitting on that beach. Sounds perfect for some people, but I don't sit still very well. Oh, and I don't do the rating thing because I am WAY too competitive. Hockey, football, tennis, motorcycles, bicycles ..... I think it has had a negative effect on some parts of my life.

audra  erin   {K:3768} 3/11/2005
Sooo.. you get all bent out of shape if your ratings are low....most of the time I don't even notice my ratings... not untill I view my portfolio as a whole.

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/11/2005
No, really I don't care. The local "ARTS" community says I have an attitude problem. It's just I want the energy to come from inside for photography, not be an external source. The whole driven by ratings thing. Maybe I do need an attitude adjustment???? I don't give ratings either. Once I gave a 6 to someone who had a 5.7 rating and their rating went DOWN. There is some rating system in place I just don't get.

audra  erin   {K:3768} 3/11/2005
come to think of it...I've never seen a perfect 7..really...not one...the highest I've ever seen is 6.5...hmmmmmmmmmmm mmm mm m.

emily savva   {K:21113} 3/11/2005
breathtaking shot dear Richard... the whole perspective and the clouds give to the image an otherwordly quality.... excellent!!!! emy :)

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/11/2005
The way it works (I THINK) is that there is a weighting system. If you give out too many 6's and 7's, the scores you give out are lowered to compensate. So if you gave me a 7, but have been giving out too many 7's "usefilm" might record your 7 as a 5 to compensate.
I also think the rating should be recorded with the comment, so you know where it is coming from. Some people are more critical than others (nothing wrong with that), but if I were to get a high score from one of them it might have more impact on my thinking. I learned most of this from discussions in Photo Forums.
Then there is the question of personal preference. I love sunsets, but I was told by an "expert" NEVER to enter a sunset in a competition as the judges will just toss it. Go figure. Anyway Audra, like I said I am really trying to look for a more internal way to motivate myself in art and in life.

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/11/2005
Thanks Em.

Paolo De Maio   {K:34791} 4/8/2005
Hi Richard,
first of all thank you for your kind comment to mine I appreciated it so much...
I love Canada in all it aspects and one of my best friend is from Canada....
In this shot I like the shadows and lights plays emphasized on the horizon line by means of the clouds ....
You right it is not possible to figure out this is one of the best windsurfing beaches....
Sorry for my bad english I'm trying to improve it doing my best...
Paolo

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 4/8/2005
Thanks for the comment Paolo, and your English is just fine. The weather changes fast here, and we will be windsurfing soon. Well not me, I switched to cycling about ten years ago and it is my passion now. Have a great day.
