Judy...funny but, now i do see the connection, more than ever. Especially since this was one of the few shots I forced her to take that day, the annual "bowl" picture. I think she knows how badly I want to continue the tradition, but she also knows (as well as I do) that she has outgrown "the bowl" already. So she was quite anxious to just get the dang thing overwith, and go back to just being her overly dramatic, silly little 4 year old self!!

GEEZ Kel...I'm such a huge fan of your portraits, when you say stuff like that, you make me blush!! I'm still trying to get used to this whole forum, having my pictures viewed by so many talented photographers!! Until last week, the ONLY people who ever saw them was family...so the SC was a bit of a SHOCK!! as was the BIP last week. Does wonders for my confidence, and just makes me want to shoot and shoot and shoot!! I guess I was just expecting (and still hoping for) constructive criticism. I've learned so much here in one short week, it's amazing, and I sincerely thank everyone for all their kind remarks!!

i think you've really underestaimated yourself.... you shouldn't be comparing yours to mine,i'm nobody,i've only just started 5 months ago.... yours are definatley better than mine and i believe you to be one of the best photographers here....
i think you don't need constructive critisim....you are already doing you thing.... is this your living?... if not you had better start making it.....

Kelly...you are quite humble, my dear new friend!! You know you have an amazingly creative "eye". And NO this is not my living, until three months ago when I got the Sony F828, the only camera I had ever held in my hands was an old point-and-shoot Kodak 2mp digital. But it's quickly become my "obsession of the moment". Come spring, I'll be back to my 1st love, my garden...and I can't wait till then, for my 2 passions to meet. ;)

Thanks Dina Marie, I'm glad you liked it. All I did for the finish was convert to BW with a "channel mixer" adjustment layer (my standard method for BW) and then colorize in a "hue/saturation" adjustment layer (Hue=43, Saturation=15) Hope this helps, if you need more info, let me know.
Photoshop is my forte', I sure wish I knew as much about my camera...then I'd really have something going...

Ahhh... the one shot I open up first and it's a SC. That'll be right!
I love people completing sequential shots and this is a brilliant example.
This'll never stop - what'll happen is you'll just develop teh theme a little.
Age 21 she'll be wearing it on her head, or eating a massive bowl of ceral from it!
Don't let this die, keep it going forever!
Beautiful light, great DOF and nice toning in PS.My niece is my main suject, not got her in a bowl yet though - Ohh did sit her in a bin once - maybe that should be my thing!
It's great to see someone enjoying their kids in this way and recording them as they grow up.
She'll have this on her wall age 21 - I would if my mum took this when I was little. Unfortunately I'm not looking so cute in my childhood pics.

Matt...oh my...now look what you've done!! I take a brake for a couple days, and I come back and we're on the front page!! What can say, but thank you so much for your very thoughtful comments! I'm glad you took the time to put the image into context, with regard to the tradition...hope you took a peek at the original shot of her at 5 days old, in the bowl.
The really funny thing about this whole latest group of shots of Ava is this...we got together one afternoon a couple weeks ago to get the annual bowl shot...and at the end of our hour or two together, we thought we had gotten a couple nice portraits of her, but nothing good with the bowl, and that we would have to get back together to reshoot the bowl sometime...guess we were QUITE wrong about that.
