Hi David,
Fantastic portrait! You must be so proud of your son! :) by the way i love what you did with your signature. How do u do taht?

Patrick Ziegler   {K:21747} 3/15/2005
Great lighting and perspective. Pull this out to calm yourself when he's 19..... lol That's how old my son is....

All kidding aside, excelent work!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/15/2005
Hi Larry, thanks very much. Yes my son is one of the best things ever happened to me in my life.

The signature is very easy to do in PS. Scan your signature and use it as a layer. A very soft drop shadow helps define it agains a busy background.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/15/2005
thanks Pat, actually I sometimes need to pull this one out today already :)

Kshitiz Anand   {K:4848} 3/15/2005

regards!

Ori Vidra   {K:3224} 3/15/2005
I love the sepia tones and the backlight that makes his head glow.

Larry Monserate Piojo   {K:10774} 3/15/2005

Muy bien iluminada la escena. Y felicitaciones por tu hijo!, se ve espléndido.
Un abrazo!

Great catch! Again he looks engrossed in something. He's such a handsome little boy :) Love the dof and tones!

Fadel J   {K:13747} 3/18/2005
Another strong portrait, I really like how you pick your DOF, and the lighting here is super!

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 3/20/2005
Again, I thought "medium format ?" when I opened it. Great portrait, lighting, tones, and use of DOF are superb. Square format is surely the right choice, for his posture. Let me ask a tech question: do you scan the negative or make a print and scan the print then ?

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/20/2005
thanks very much Casten. I scan the negative and do everything digital from there. I enjoyed darkroom work many years ago, but today I prefer PS. I neither have the space nor time to deal with an enlarger and chemicals. It wouldn't give me even 20% of the posibilities of PS anyway.

Carlos     {K:12969} 3/20/2005
nothing needs to be written David ? everything?s evident ;-)... and the work ? excellent.
cheers.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/2/2005
thanks very much! I was happy he sat there :) He doesn't pose yet, he totally controlls the situations :)

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 4/4/2005
I don't think it gets any better on this one, David. The light, the composition, quality, mood. All good. Oh, a Bronica! No wonder. Now I want one, lol. I also like what you said in your profile, that photography is a passion. I knew I wanted a camera since I was 7, and I coveted my dad's Kodak Instamatic. Lovely work, especially your b&w's.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/4/2005
thanks very much Mark. I did so many thing in my live and started so many things and dropped them again. Photography is the only thing I keep on doing since I got my first camera and always enjoyed it all those years. My job is very related to it. Maybe it is good I never made it my full time job. Not sure if I would enjoy it as much if I had to do someone else's vision.

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 4/4/2005
I did it professionally for two years and it was difficult. You're right, photographing for someone else's vision is stifling to say the least.

Lori Stitt   {K:74568} 4/10/2005
Excellent DOF in this portrait.
Beautiful lighting, I really
like this image a lot.
Nice composition,
Lori :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/10/2005
thanks a lot Lori!
