Ever been in a lock before?
well if not, this is pretty much what you see when it starts going down. This is on the Grand Union near to Napton in Warwickshire, and as you can see it's pretty wide - holds 2 narrow boats at once. I was on the RHS in "Crofton" and "Apperley" was the the left.
The big pointy things to the extreme left and right are the sluice controls, and Eddie was in charge of opening them on this occasion - I was on the bow recording the journey into the lock with my 15mm lens!
Pretty heave gates, made of plate steel in this case. Once moving though they are well balanced and you hardly have to push.
Had about 8 of these a day - which is about enough if you've a hangover!

Nice shot of the inside of the lock, Ade, a great point of view, and interesting "about"! I like the toning, too, it gives it an old time effect. Thanks for all your great comments! Dave.

Wonderful capture Ade, like the sepia touch or is this the alcoholic haze I am seeing ;-)
Takes me back to days travelling up and down the Leeds Liverpool canal - used to love the lock gates :-)
Best wishes, Steve
