About Maya was leaning back on my chair and trwisted around. She really enjoyed it and I kept on taking photos. It took me a while to find a framing that would work and in the end the square, dead center crop worked best.

Nice to see you David...I wasn't often on the "site" last two weeks....Your photos are still incredable....beautiful work with color...your D2H is really in your hands...

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 3/29/2005
Yes the square crop is very good, but what makes the shot (except her expression, of course) is the coloring, IMO. Is that the color out of the camera, or did you change the saturation or color temperature abit ? Soft tones of face, hair, background, and the white shirt are just great

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
thnaks Carsten, color was actually the thin I worked on the mest on this photo and I'm still undecided wheather I like it or not.
Out of the camera the color was ok, but not really what I wanted. I tried to adjust the color but it didn't work at all. So I started to make a B&W sepia version. But I really wanted to keep it in color. In the end I blened the original and the spepia versions together. I wish I had a little more color variation in the skin tones. Maybe I get too picky with my photos. It is also difficult to stay objective when taking photos of your own kids. So thanks for the honest feedback! I really need it sometimes.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
thanks Claude, I'm glad you're back!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
Hi Jan, you are right, the colors is a little orange. See my reply to Carsten, I worked on the color for some time. I will need more experimenting with colors to get what I want. Especially skin tones are very fragile to adjust.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
thanks Klifton! I did use the lens wide open, but I actually blured everything around the face quite a bit in PS. I always use lens blur as gaussan blur looks artificial.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
thanks Bryan! when I saw her in my viewfinder I knew it would be a good photo, but I never expected to spend so much time on it in PS :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 3/29/2005
thanks Elly, you work is also inspiring for me.
