very nice and interesting photo ! excellent !

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/2/2005
thanks Kelly. I took many that day. Takes time to process them since they are all raw format and many of them are panoramas that need stitching. I actualy took a couple of photo of the clouds only to have an interesting sky just in case I need one somehwere in a different photo :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/2/2005
thanks Edahe, I had this feeling when I was there. It was really impressive.

Elsje Fiederelsje   {K:6320} 4/2/2005
NICE!!!

Amna Al Shamsi   {K:21796} 4/2/2005
wonderful!

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47727} 4/2/2005
Very well done and unnoticed stitched, the low angle shot produced a great natural contrast between ground and the sky, wonderful arrangement, Saeed

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 4/2/2005
Wow, those cumulus clouds are just gorgeous ! Good idea to shoot for panos, this scenery cries for WIDE angle perspective. Seems you coud not decide between sky and poppies again, so what. Dead horizon is no issue here, sky and ground structures are leading the eyes into the scene, to infinity. Superb result

Gertrud Gozner   {K:14222} 4/2/2005
wonderful capture... beautiful landscape and colors... G.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/2/2005
Funny that you mention it. I was really undecided where to put the emphasis, tried different crops but didn't want to loose anything. When I uploaded it I almost called it "undecided" :?)

Anne Knes   {K:60438} 4/2/2005

Thanks Amna, you're a great photographer (judging by your portfolio) so I'm very glad you like it!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
thanks very much Saeed. I was very undecided about the composition, so I'm very happy you like it they way it is.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
thanks a lot Gustavo! Yes the clouds were phantastic that day.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
Thanks a lot Romy. There were many other poeple enjoying the poppy blossom and virtually everyone had a camera :) I never saw so many cameras compared to people :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
thanks a lot Robert

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
Thanks Fadel! I think I was a little lucky also. I'm sure you would have got an even better result out of that day. But then I was "handycaped" with my two kids around. I always had to watch them very closely as we had just seen a rattle snake coming out of a hole and the whole area was full of those little holes.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/3/2005
thanks a lot Marco!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/5/2005
thanks Mel. Don't you live close to that? Did you go this year?

David Nepinsky   {K:238} 4/8/2005
Excellent capture and work in PS David. You have some very nice images of the Poppy Reserve. Have you been back there recently? This has been an excellent year in California for wildflowers. They are blooming all over the place thanks to the heavy rainfall.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/8/2005
thanks David, I have been there only once. I thought about going there one more time at sunrise, but that would mean getting up really early :)

Elena Zabelina   {K:23212} 4/10/2005
What a wonderful view... Very colorfull panorama.
Absilutely excellent shoot. Did you use some filter for sky? Or this clouds from second shoot? Great effect - looks like clouds moving up. Amazing color...7+++ To my Favorites.
Lena
O, where is this place? I live in California too, can you give me direction, please.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/11/2005
Hi Elena, thanks a lot! The place is called Poppy Reserve and it is Close to Lancaster. You take the 14, exit on "Ave. I" (yes they don't have names, just letters) and keep going west on "I". After 10 minutes you are in the middle of poppys. Very busy on the weekends these days.

I didn't do too much to this photo. I adjusted the contrast and colors a little both for the sky and ground separately. This is pretty much as it looked like this day.

Melanie Reynolds   {K:9090} 4/12/2005
Sorry so long to reply! I do live close by, but have not made it out there ( My husband has been driving our car to work since his truck broke down... and when he's not working we don't go too far with these gas prices. Unfortunatley we have been short on funds since the nasty wheather! He cannot work when the weather is bad... now that you know my life story ;o) LOL There are some gorgeous wildflowers off the 58 between Tehachapi and Bakersfield where I really want to take my boys for some photos!

Larry Monserate Piojo   {K:10774} 4/13/2005
Wow! Sir David Hoffman! This is fabulous!!! and congrats on the front page!!!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/13/2005
thanks a lot Larry!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/13/2005
Hi Melanie, sorry to hear that. I really hope you get that truck repaired soon.

James Hager   {K:6285} 4/18/2005
Beautiful sky and a nice bunch of poppies. The composition is a bit flat to me because there's nothing for my eyes to settle on.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
Thanks James, I see what you mean. the missing center is ok with me, I couldn't make a decision if I should give the sky or ground more weighting and ended up making no real choice (it is pretty much 50/50). :)

My biggest problem that day was I came to this place the very first time, was overwhelmed with the scenery I saw and tried to take some photos while constantly keeping my eye on my two little kids (2 & 3.5) to make sure they would not step onto a rattle snake (I almost touched one when trying to get a low angle shot).

Bryan Jarmain   {K:11941} 4/22/2005
A stunning photo, David. Something to really aspire to. The central horizon doesnt distract at all here - both the sky and the land add lots of value. Well done.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/22/2005
thanks very much Bryan!

Peter De Rycke   {K:41029} 4/24/2005
