About Out in the Auster today, I visited my favourite railway from the air.

Posted this one with Den Thomson in mind.

Looks like a BR 4MT Tank just pulling away from Norden Station near Corfe Castle.

If it weren't except for the steam this one looks more like a trainset.

Dear Neil,
Thank you sharing and giving infos about this photo. I think that you were at the top of the hill while you were capturing .
Panaromic framing looks good for this photo.
Congratulations!

Hi Neil, thanks for your comment on my flower pic. I had seen this one but cos my computer is Tom Dick I've had to wait till lunchtime to comment.
I agree it looks like a BR 4MT Tank and the smoke does say it's not a model. Quite a different viewpoint from those usually seen in mags!! Do you remember a few years back when there was quite a hoo ha concerning a helicopter buzzing the steam specials on the West Highland Line? Hope you didn't get in that sort of trouble.
Will you be able to make the meet on the 16th?
Den

Den,

We were at about 1600 ft which is a fairly normal height for a small aircraft like ours to fly at. In fact we are encouraged to use line features like railways and motorways to fly alongside to help with navigation so unless we go really low (less than 500ft) we wouldn't normally get into trouble. (Although I do have a bit a burning ambition to track something like the Flying Scotsman on a mainline run some day).

Sorry about the meet on the 16th - I did pop you an e-mail, and unfortunately I don't think things are going to change on that.

Neil

A great capture of the train. I miss hearing trains as I did when I was younger.

A blast from the past. Nice peaceful image (at least from this height!)

Given myself 1/2 hr to try and look at some back uploads I have missed.
Great shot from the air, and of course Den appreciated it. Sorry you won't be able to make it - and hope things will be okay
