About Just returned from vacation. Nabbed this one driving through the Owens Valley on our way home. There has been an unusual amount of snow and the mountains were lovely. It was drawing near sunset when I shot this out of the car window going 70 mph.

Beautiful, lonesome tree with it's light tipped branches againts that awesome, snow capped mountain! Very well done, especially in a moving vehicle!

Rebecca --- thanks. You were on my mind when I posted this as I was hoping you would like it! :) Antonia

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 4/4/2005
Andre...you were so on my mind while up in the mountains' snowy woods taking pictures. Thanks..and this is about my best shot of the trip. It's funny I was traveling at 70 mph when I got my best shot of the trip. I must admit that I didn't spend much time taking pics this vacation -- just burned out I think. It was frustrating since the scenery was glorious. My creativity was lacking though as it all looked so plain through my lens -- pine trees and snow and mountains that I've seen in a million pictures before, from much finer landscape photographers -- ones who actually use tripods! Hugs. Antonia

Thanks Rona!

Carlos..you won't believe this, but I read your mind! I almost wrote a joke to you about that very thing, because I imagined you would think that...isn't that wierd? Hubby was driving. Kisses. Antonia

p.s... picture the 70 mph wind blowing my lens around as it hung out the window!

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 4/4/2005
Hi Toni - welcome back :-)
What a beautiful scenery, must have been a great holiday. Many nice pictures may be expected...
Is that hoarfrost there in the branches ? Very sharp, must be a good highway, and you have a steady hand ;-)

Burak Tanriover   {K:16604} 4/4/2005

Thanks Elena! I've posted the backdrop at your bubbles pics with comments. Antonia

Hi Carsten..thanks for the welcome. The light was shining through the branches, and I played it up a bit with the dodge tool. I've got a few more posts. You were in my thoughts as I was snapping my panoramas and forgetting to take different explosures of the land and sky so that I could stitch later...lol. Ahhh well. I don't profess to be much of a landscaper, but perhaps I'll get better if I pay closer attention to your work. Honestly, I felt very challenged to obtain good shots this trip -- not a lot to show, but there will be a few. Warm regards. Antonia

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 4/5/2005
Hi Toni,
Sometimes our best shots can come along when we least expect them. Don't you find that even when you don't have a camera with you, that you are still kind of half composing things for a still image in your head? I'll bet most of us here do.

As far as not shooting too much on vacation... It can be a little overwhelming sometimes when surrounded by fantastic scenery. Sometimes the thinking might be that you can't do it justice in print. I know how you feel. Sometimes when we go somewhere on vacation to some landmark type place, my wife wonders why I don't take pictures of them. My answer is, I can buy three postcards for a dollar if I want a picture of that.

But, I think even if you don't feel creative at the time, you could feel differently weeks or months down the road.
Andre

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 4/5/2005
Great reply, Andre. Your statements about being overwhelmed by the scenery and thinking we can't do justice in print are spot on. There are some amazing landscape photographers who focus on the Sierras, and we have purchased a number of prints from them. They go out in the wee hours and sit with the finest equipment and take loooooong exposures with film and then blow them up and print them on the finest paper. My images don't compare, because I don't invest in them that way. So I guess I prefer to focus my energies where they don't go...lol. The postcard comment is so true! Thanks for relating to what I said, my friend. :) Antonia

Margaret Sturgess   {K:49403} 4/5/2005
That is a great shot, taken at 70mph it is a fabulous shot. Lovely composition, hope you had a good holiday - and that the play goes well, and hopefully that will mean we hear more from you when all is a bit more settled
Margaret

What a lovely scene you captured. Great driver.

Dave Arnold   {K:55672} 7/6/2007
An excellent shot at 70! Once in a while I can capture something while flying by but its only once in a while since I am always the one driving.

Best wishes,
Dave
