About Subject background: Lost in the archives, volume 2. I found this night shot done in Venice, no tripod, 1/20s actual shutter speed. Obviously, you know that bridge ;-)

PS concept: Some layer tweaks

Honest feedback highly appreciated

Very nice - I love the lights shining on the water - the whole image has the feeling of non-reality - A+ - K

Hi thilo, very peculiar toning. Not as strong or extreme as the previous one, but still, the hint at x-processing is still visible. Interesting view, and an atmosphere of a very pleasant night. Not the average holiday snap, but way more elaborate than that. I like your exploration of the boundaries between photography and digigraphy.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Thilo,

Verena

Hi Thilo! "Lost in the archives" - you need a secretary, LOL! Beautiful tones & reflections with great architectural details. Very moody stuff ...

George Black   {K:101993} 4/11/2005
A fine composition and at 1/20 sec, a technical marvel. I confess to finding the color and the contrast a bit harsh for what after all is a dreamy night scene in one of the world's most romantic cities.

Best regards,
--George

Like the colors.. this photo almost reminds me of the old postcards which used to be hand painted with color...nice image, esp with no tripod..always great to see Venice.. It would be nice to see the original as well.. good work

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21809} 4/11/2005
Hi Thilo, das kenn ich doch..ebenso das vorige:)
Mir gefallen besonders die Grüntöne in der rechten Mauer!
Liebe Grüsse und gute Nacht
Ursula

great sharpness in the bridge and buildings....you are the master of the tripodless night shot... do you have some other secret? or just nerves of steel?

Andre Denis   {K:56482} 4/12/2005
Hi Thilo, Isn't digital fantastic for going through your own archives and giving them new life? I am having a ball going through my old stuff too. I agree with Hugo on this. It is not quite as extreme a change as the previous shot, but still far different than a conventional photo.
Andre

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 4/12/2005
hey todd,

thanks a lot for your kind words. I managed to squeeze out some extra sharpness with selective layer work here (duplicate the base layer, blend mode hard light, then a high pass filter with 50% on the duplicated layer).

I guess I have a slow hand ;-)
at the fair, I always shoot some plastic roses for me girl-friend.

best wishes,

thilo

Hi Andre,

it is fantastic on the one side, but on the other, it really consumes my spare time ;-)

you're right with your impression... this image wasn't dedicated for the heavy PS stuff.

thilo

Erik Neldner   {K:10896} 4/12/2005
Cool one. I love the fact that most of the color is found in the reflections in the water. This really helps to focus the eye.

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59985} 4/16/2005
EXCELLENT!

(sorry, so many short comments from me now but too many to make comments on...)

Take care,
Jeanette

I like the special view you bring to well known places with your technicques. It makes it somehow as if we see the image for the first time..
