i nice capture. but i agree about the subject being lost.
just try cropping at the natural crop line at the bottom and you will have plenty of hight cues left. you can probably crop also below the rail. you will show the face of the skater better and it is an important part of this image. now, is color really important here? idk. may be toning it black/white will focus attention on the frozen motion rather than on the paint and unreadable lettering. in sum, an intersting shot with some great potential.

Natural crop line?? Crop below the rail?? you will show the face of the skater better and it is an important part of this image?? I'm super confused. Are you trying to tell me that if I crop up on the bottom of this image you feel that it will bring out the face of the individual that I'm taking a photo of? Perhaps an example.
I tried the photo in B&W and it thought it was much worse than color. He seems to blend into the back ground even more... but as I said... perhaps an example to clairify.

ok, here is one of many alternatives. i don't think he blends into the background. i used quadtone with black, pantone DS 3-7C; 325-7C, and 316-9C tones.

Naftali,
I don't like this at all. Not becuase of the tone, but the crop. I can't tell where he is comming from or how high he is in relation to it. For this type of photography, it's essential that you have indicators for these things.

Thats way better. There is a dinemsion of height the crop is closer to the skater. but still lets you know where he is comming from... Jump box photos are always hard to do. The tone is a little green for me.. but thats kinda nit-picky, I can always change it. Thanks for looking...
