About We call this "marreteiro". Due to unemployment, a man sells everything at a sidewalk, São Paulo dowtown: lighters and "batida", a drink made with "cachaça".
The face of this man was very impressive for me. The scenery, very colorful...and I like the relation between the man and the character of the graffiti... thanks to my Nikon for being so small that can "live" in my pocket...
All critiques are wellcome!!

Wonderful street capture, lovely tones and composing.

Giorgio Mesghetz   {K:6724} 4/16/2005
comunque voto un bel 7!io avrei tagliato la foto lasciando solo la parte alta, per eliminare particolari e concentrare lo sguardo solamente sul dipinto e il viso del'artista...ciao

Carmem A. Busko   {K:48767} 4/16/2005
No, P, I don?t agree with your cropping... I did several shots of this man... the whole scene was atractive to me... I?m posting another sample.
thank you anyway,
carmem

Randy Lorance   {K:24769} 4/16/2005
Wow,great find Carmem. So much going on in this picture, which looks to be a candid shot. The wall is at a nice angle to make the shot fluid. The wonderful graffiti character seems to be actively interacting with the man, himself an interesting subject. His expression and the items around him invite speculation about his circumstances and thoughts,it seems he has been here for some time, judgeing by the contents left in the bottle. Love everything about this including the title. Take care,

Randy

Hi Carmen

good

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59855} 4/16/2005
Amazing street shot Carmem. I like the "painting" behind him, the colours, your composition and his proudness.

Jeanette

Roberto Okamura   {K:22851} 4/16/2005
Bela composição Carmem!
De vez em quando arrisco umas tomadas de pessoas, mas tenho um medo terrível da reação delas.. hehe.. Por isso prefiro a natureza... Podem até me morder, mas seique não é por maldade! hehe..

John Loreaux   {K:86129} 4/16/2005
Fantastic image Carmem! This is street photography at its best!He looks like a street vendor selling the two worst addictions, lighters for smoking and some kind of alchoholic beverage. The figure on the mural is looking at Him and telling Him He is in the darkness!(These are just My thoughts!)The colors are very good Carmem!I really like the expression on His face You have captured here! Excellent work My friend! Take care and GOD bless!..................John

Cheio de coisas boas ultimamente , ando meio fora de sincronismo por aqui...maravilha de composição e que cena , parece até que foi tudo combinado e planejado : cenário , o modelo ( quanto pagou de cachê ? ) , a pose. Muito boa percpção , adorei esta foto.

Fadel J   {K:13747} 4/16/2005
Great image and colors Carmem, I love the creepy figure on the wall! actually I was going to suggest cropping too, but now I understand your point of not cropping :) very well seen and realized as always Carmem!

Sergio Leal   {K:1454} 4/17/2005

a great use of lighters and strong smoker! optimal street my dear!.. I love the contrast of the colors that you have captured and the opposition between murales and the true man! a hard life is a lot touching.
kisses, roby (thank you also for your gift to me f the your photo's sequence)..
roby

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47727} 4/19/2005
Even the face is not happy and very strong expression but of good subject of street photography theme, although I would?ve gave more space to his biz, but superb work. Saeed

Thilo Bayer   {K:50355} 4/19/2005
Hi Carmem,

really a great and colorful dramatic portrait. the painting fits very well with his situation... some ghosts hiding behind him and waiting for his descent.

great style!

best wishes,

thilo

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91043} 4/19/2005
hi,lady!..i like everything about this image and even had it up as computer background for awhile..the graf art is strong, the gentleman seems confident, but most of all i like how you composed him in one part of "his world"...seems the best natural portraits show people in their own element...very well seen/executed,Carmem..regards,gayle

Dirck DuFlon   {K:35779} 4/19/2005
Carmem, this is a wonderful image, with so much going on! P.J.s crop is nice, too, but although some might see 'clutter' in this shot, all the elements you included tell part of the story!
There was a film many years ago who'se title in Spanish was "Vendedores del Vicio" (salesmen of vice), which I think could fit this scene nicely! After all, he is selling alcohol, lighters for cigarettes, batteries (OK, the batteries aren't a vice! :) Add to this the fact that he is standing in the flames, with the painted figure shrinking away from him in fear... (he even has spikes in his hair - like horns!) Oof - so much symbolism! (then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it? :)
You have an amazing 'eye' for powerful photography!

beijos,

This is such a good candid photograph Carmem, the framing and moment of capture is just perfect.

I love the colours and there is so much to look at in the photograph.

Fabulous work :-)
