Hi Andre, there were artist statements posted to the side for each work and I only had two entries in the show. The man looking at my image here happened to be one of the entrants (which I didn't learn until later). It was so relaxing for me to be able to flit around and not worry about explaining anything. There were two instances where a woman from the art committee and a juror quizzed me about my work, and that did make me a bit nervous, as I am not accustomed to explaining things under those circumstances. They were both very experienced in the arts.

Hi Toni, The little extra, keeping the viewers mind sharp makes this one tick. It's the ingenuity of the repetitive tilt in this one, creating a very strong interaction between your shot, the viewer, and us (the UF audience) That does add the alternate perspective. Outstanding and a perfect moment and composition.

Andre, only one of the two photos is on this site. The one that appears here is titled "Negative Impact" and I posted it for only a few hours a long time ago, right after the November elections. It was so political, I decided to take it down rather than provoke anyone...lol. The other is in my portfolio, "Tsunami," and was a much larger print that was the piece I really wanted to showcase. The Art Committee selected these two works for the show (from 4 submissions) as both meeting their artistic standards and for being in keeping with their theme for the exhibit. Antonia

Thanks Carsten -- I did almost have break into a run when I saw this one coming. Fortunately he stood there in this position unusually long so that I'd have time to consider and get over to him (I was halfway across the room when I noticed him). BTW, I hadn't yet met him and later took his photo (face on) standing in front of his own entry after it was announced for winning 1st place!

What a lovely dome and terrific cresses on the fellow ? curious (and fortunate) he adjusted the viewing position by leaning sideways rather than simply moving a step left. Of course there is always a kind of nervousness and heightened reality in an art gallery show ? and this may account for the gymnastics? or maybe he was just casually eying the competition...
But it is your picture that matters Antonia ? comical, very well composed, and praiseworthy?

hi toni... haven't logged on in a while and saw the SC and nearly fell out of my chair. how many did i miss? kids have been sick off and on for 6-8 weeks and tax season had us crazed... finally, everyone is well, tax season is over and the weather is gorgeous. i was so excited to get the postcard of the exhibition. i showed everybody!!! and now this... big, big congrats! i'm so proud of you. i'll call you soon....c.

I don't know what time you were sending this to me, but it is 10:22 a.m. and about a half hour ago I was thinking about you, how long it has been since we've been in contact, and was calculating your birthday coming up. Thanks Manu. I haven't researched the D70 and so I'm sorry that I can't recommend it. I really respect the reviews given at Steve's Digicams, and I'd definitely check out what is said about it there. At the moment, my sights are set on the Canon 20D. It is 8MP and surpasses the Nikon D100 with regard to noise at high ISO's. I'm so impressed with the images I see here coming from that camera, and everyone I know who owns one LOVES it. But, as I said, I haven't looked into the D70 yet. Happy Hunting! Antonia

Great candid Antonia! Wonderfully composed. One of the things I like best about photography is that it trancends boundaries like religion, sex, language, and age. To a certain extent, you could also argue that it offers a mode of expression to many who would otherwise be silent. What a sad, silent world it would be without their voices.

Thanks Margaret. Yes, it was quite fun to watch. A "jurored" show is one that is judged and where awards are given...1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes. The gentlemen in the picture, who I had not yet met nor did I know he was in the show, took 1st place!
