About taken from an airplane. Looking down on clouds is totally fascinating and even though I have been flying so many times I never get tired of it.

I agree, it is fascinating no matter how many times you see it. This is a great shot, David. So abstract even with knowing what it is! So many textures and colors... very nice!

Girish Chonkar   {K:7043} 4/19/2005
Wonderful view, great clouds

Bunnie Chamberlain   {K:443} 4/19/2005
Beautiful shot David...they look like storm clouds! I'm not a good flyer....I just sit in the seat and wait to land..lol but thanks for the view :)

Bunnie

Wow, excellent clouds and light, David. Really beautiful view. It's really good to be able to enjoy whatever routine activity we have. Thanks for sharing..:)

I agree with you David...I'm 40 something, and everytime I get on a plane, I feel like a 10 year old on my first rollercoaster ride...just love it!! Fascinating capture, a great study in different types of clouds. Love how you're above the storm...know the feeling..all sunny and bright, and then you descend through the black rain clouds into a much darker, wetter world below. Great shot!

So dramatic and moody. Great capture David. I have the same feeling. I took some shots too and posted on, you can tell me what you think.
Congrats on the shot.
All the best
Manuel

thanks Jan, I have tons of cloud photos. I just rediscovered that folder yesterday :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
Thanks Hanggan, what you say is very true. Its those every day things that we tend to oversee but are full of beauty. For me clouds are one of those things. Every day when I drive to work, I enjoy the clouds.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
thanks Bunnie, they were actually just normal nice white clouds. I doctored the photo in PS a lot to get the dark look.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
thanks a lot Melanie!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
thanks Kelly. flying is safer than driving a car and if you drop, you are dropping right down from heaven. Tell me a better way to die! :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/19/2005
thanks Alison!

Wow, those are some wicked looking clouds! Great capture!

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 4/20/2005
Beautiful, and great capture from a plane, given there's a window to shoot through. I'm nuts about clouds too. Antonia

Elena Zabelina   {K:23212} 4/20/2005
Wow! So dramatic and beautiful cloudscape. Amazing color of a sky... Great shoot! I like to look at clouds from airplane too. Very strange feeling in that time, not enough words.
Kind regards,
Lena

Awesome shot !. So, you are nuts on clouds, too ? Looks supernatural, very attractive cloudscape. Tonal range in the lower part is a bit on the dark side, IMO. What about a bit dodging there or a vivid light blended layer mask ?

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/20/2005
Thanks Casten. I had to admit that I'm not 100% happy with it. I worked on it for a while and thought it looked great, uploaded and as soon as it was up I hated it. That actually happens to me every once in a while.
The original is from an older camera so the dynamic range in the JPG is not that good. I hit some limits when I tried to get the tones the way I wanted. If you want to play with it, I can send you the original.

Larissa Nazarova   {K:12112} 4/22/2005
Fantastic clouds! It's a magical different world! i love clouds!
It's a kingdom of something!
My bestr regards, Larissa

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/22/2005
thanks Larissa

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 4/24/2005
Sorry for the late response, David. I tried a shadow/highlight in PS with vivid light as blending mode on a layer mask, only for parts in the clouds. What do you think ?

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/25/2005
Yes the lower left quarter looks definitely better. I so much wish I had a RAW file of that.
