About The World's Only Corn Palace. Mitchell South Dakota. From the roof of my apartment building at dusk. This building, because of it's age and size has become a point of local debate.

Great night shot, Pat! Beautiful lights, and I like your shutter speed to capture the moving lights.
Dave.

CORN PALACE! Ohhh, I didn't get to go but everyone else went on our way to Nebraska. I heard it's very cool. I love your evening shot of it - the clarity is spectacular. Love the lights of the cars too - I want to take an evening shot like this some time... :)

Outstanding, Pat! I didn't get to see this at night; it's spectacular. (It was spectacular in daylight, too, to tell the truth.) Well done!

Pat, what's the debate about with this building? I was going to ask but forgot...

Pat Ziegler   {K:21585} 4/26/2005
Well. Our city is growing and for sometime now there has been talk of building a convention center. During this time there has been economic develpment away from Main Street, (WalMart and the like). There is one group who want to build the new convention center in the area of the newer development. In the meentime the COrn Palace is in danger of loosing State basketball touneys and other events becouse it is too small. And our Main Street is dying a slow death. The Corn Palace has brought alot of tourism dollars to our city. I and others feel it is being overlooked and needs to be torn down and rebuilt into something worthy of the name "Palace" It was something in it's day but is becomeing somewhat of a joke around town.

The convention center idea (building in the area of the new development) was recently voted down in a city election. So, I think the odds of getting a new palace are getting better..
