LOVE IT! Obviously. So intense, the detail in the eye (not to mention his expression) countered by the extremely shallow dof...wonderful. Really excellent close-up, David...I'm curious, did you play with the highpass technique at all on this one? This is really one of my favorite shots of yours. Perfect tones...blah blah blah...it's awesome!!! He looks frustrated, or maybe a little uneasy with the camera so close...great tension. Did I say I really love it?

Cheers
J

Great composition and details David!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/27/2005
Hi Jan, thanks very much! I actually was trying the high pass layer, but since my box of CS2 arrived I tried the new smart sharpen and found it creates a very interesting, nice sharpening effect without the typical halos from USM. In a way it looked very similar to the high pass method. I tried both in this image and finally went with the smart shapren version. But as I said, the characteristics looked very alike.

I don't think Aaron was frustrated, I think he was holding something in his hand and inspected it. The camera doesn't bother him at all any more. He is very much used to have the lens infront of him a lot :)

again, thanks very much for your comment!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/28/2005
Hanggan, thanks you very much, yes I really feel lucky to have such wonderful kids. It is something I wanted for a long long time. And the best thing about having kids is as a father you can do all the childish things again and nobody objects :) :)

Piercing eyes. Every little hair and detail is in this and I love it. Also, excellent crop. Oh, just read Jan's...I think the same thing...lol. Hugs. Toni

Roberto Carli   {K:13689} 4/29/2005
Excellent sharpness and details too, really a great portrait, congrats!!!!

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 4/30/2005
Masterly performed, DOF is just right to emphasize his eyes, crop and composition are top notch. I tried a desaturated pure B&W, and I must say, I prefer the B&W to the toned version (maybe, because of the slightly unnatural looking hint of orange around the shadow on his cheek).
Regards; Carsten

Thanks Casten yes this color banding thing happens a lot when add a slight color tone. Not sure how to solve this problem.

You really did well with the focus here, David. The skin texture is perfectly captured. A nice perspective.
