I really should get that Lensbaby! I always love it. Did you enhance the binky or does it help with that? I love the green of it and the angle of the shot. Great color tones here.

Linda Bique   {K:73220} 4/30/2005
Oh Gosh this is just beautiful, so soft, dreamy, what a beautiful child, cuddly, I love the colors and the selective focus, wonderful shot. Linda

Fadel J   {K:13747} 4/30/2005
Beautiful image David, is this purely the result of this lens? it looks very beautiful indeed!

Dina Marie   {K:-1006} 4/30/2005
brilliant. you know how much i love this.... :)

Gust@vo Sch3v3rin   {K:153312} 4/30/2005
Muy buen trabajo.
Felicitaciones!

Pat Fruen   {K:12073} 4/30/2005
You've really used that lens well here...beautifully lit and composed.

Larissa Nazarova   {K:12112} 4/30/2005
She looks like little angel, absolutely gorgeous, the pose, the softness of image-wonderful. David, thank you for introducing lensbaby. You did great advertizing for that brand, i will be keeping in mind and put this item on my shopping list.
My best regards, Larissa

Thanks a lot Cheryl. This shot is strait out of the camera. the only adjustment I did was white balance. I shoot only RAW these days and forget about WB when shooting (it doesn't matter for RAW anyway) and adjust it later. Her binky is really that gree, actually that is her favorite one. The one that she takes when she goes to bed.
I find it hard to work with the lensbaby shooting kinds that little. It is hard to focus and when your subject is moving, its hard to follow.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks very much Linda! my daughter is my favorite subject at the moment.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks Fadel, yes this one is string out of the camera except for BW fine tuning and the blur effect is pretty much what the lensbaby does.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
yes, thanks Dina for your inspiring work with it. You made me want it and I'm happy about that!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks very much Pat! I have to get used to it and after a while you get a cramp in your fingers :) but the results can be very interesting.
I wish it had auto focus... lol

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks Gustavo. its fun working with it and experimenting.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
Hi Larissa, thanks very much. Maya is an angle to me & my wife, and I'm trying hard to get that kind of feeling on my photos :)
I actually did not intend to do advertising for them. I think I first saw the effect in one of Dina's photos and knew I need one right away. I don't understand why none of the big brands came up with this idea. They are all too focused on perfection, precision, super crsisp and sharp lenses. Sometimes the most simple solution is the most creative one.

Elsje Fiederelsje   {K:6320} 4/30/2005
NICE!!!

Alison Webb   {K:2803} 4/30/2005
Beautiful portrait David, i like the soft blur around the edge, well done.
Al.

Carsten Ranke   {K:14461} 4/30/2005
Oh yes, I remind that expression, from my daughter when she was young ;-) Again, focus on the eyes, nice radial blur of this lensbaby. For creativity, it is probably good to have a WYSIWYG impression through the viewfinder, but the same effect can easily be done with a blurred mask and rdial gradient, IMO
Have a nice weekend !
Carsten

Ok, I will ask the expert. I have shot in RAW but can't get PS to open it (have PS 7.0) even with the add-on I down loaded. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
Usually Adobe's camera RAW plugin works, but I'm not sure if they already support the new rebel XT. There should be some kind of software with your camera that handles RAW files. I personally use Bibble. Its a universal RAW converter supporting almost all cameras and its very fast. A very nice feature is the highlight recover slider.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks Casten, yes the effect could be simulated in PS but it is always time consuming to get the blur right especially at high resolutions.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 4/30/2005
thanks Alison that is the "lensbaby" effect.

Trish McCoy   {K:15897} 4/30/2005
Love it. gorgeous. I need to get me a lensbaby. those are so awesome. can't wait to see more shots with it.

Jan .   {K:8693} 5/1/2005
Wow David..knowing how much you (and I) love shallow DOF, I think that lens has your name all over it!! And what the perfect marriage, the lensbaby and your baby Maya...it's such a perfect combination. Fantastic shot of the those gorgeous, sleepy brown eye!!

Bryan Jarmain   {K:11941} 5/1/2005
The shallow DOF is very effective here. Nice diagonals and well composed.

Peter Bowers   {K:181} 5/2/2005
excellent use of your new lensbaby...great result

Michael Grace-Martin   {K:10263} 5/3/2005
This is very sweet, with great soft colors..:)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 5/3/2005
thanks a lot Trish. It takes some time to get used to it, but the effect is worth the learing curve. And the price is pretty affordable.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 5/3/2005
thanks a lot Jan, so far I only did test shots even though this one turned out quite nice. It is a different way of shooting with that lens and it is not only the technical part of getting used to it but more so the "emotional" part. This looks makes you see things very different and I think I need some time with it to be able to use it properly. I hope you understand what I mean. :)

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 5/3/2005
thanks Bryan!

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 5/3/2005
thanks a lot Peter. It is really a nice and interesting lens. I'm using it for portraits, but I think it can be used for a lot of other things very interestingly.

David Hofmann   {K:23763} 5/3/2005
thanks Michael. Its the perfect "baby lens" (hence the name) :) but I really think it is also great for street photography, lifestyle and even landscapes.

Hanggan Situmorang   {K:37830} 5/3/2005
David,
Maya looks so sleepy. Why did you take her picture?....LoL.
Very touching picture, my friend. I really love it. Please send my kisses on her forehead...:))
Oh and it goes into my favorite...:)

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30194} 5/4/2005
I love your binky pics. You are so smart to take them. You are very clever with DOF. Antonia

E. Quinn   {K:342} 5/5/2005
Lovely shot!

Claude Tenot   {K:9960} 5/5/2005
grande douceur et immense tendresse...j'adore ce portrait David..le cadrage est parfaitement maîtrisé...(little piece of art)

Todd Bennett   {K:1117} 5/8/2005
