About A farm worker photographed near Amersfoort, South African Highveld. It was raining and Enoch was standing in the big store - his face was "lit" by the reflection on the pools of water just outside. He was working on the farm's ash dump, as is evident by the fine ash particles on his face.

Everything is very intense, his gaze, skin, features. You captured this wonderful subject with a very truthful tone. Thanks so much for sharing this one.

andree lerat   {K:16955} 5/7/2005
A stunning portrait. Technically perfect. The exposure and the focus make this shot very intimate. The direct look in his eyes is very sad and speaks volume about his life.

Wonderful portrait! So intense. Great close-up; I can see that his eyes were a little blood shot. Nice job of cropping. -- Naomi

Wonderful, powerful image, I like the cropping. It almost looks as if he'd been crying. His face has a lot of character, you captured him well...Linda

Hi Naomi - Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. Regarding the crop - mostly on camera, only a small portion of the hat was cropped in PS(less than 10%). I've tried to come as close as possible with the 28-200mm to get the detail on the skin and beard. Kind regards.
Joggie

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 5/11/2005
Thanks for the comment Riny. Feel free to write in Dutch, Afrikaans is fairly similar and I should be able to translate. (btw - your English is not that crazy)

Alison Stroebel   {K:4069} 5/11/2005
WOW!! Joggie and incredible portrait. One of those "I wish I had shot that photos". Great stuff. I love the detail and the color. He doesn't look too pleased to be being photographed. Was he?

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 5/11/2005
Thanks Alison - I only talked to him after the photograph - I think he was a bit stunned and unsure or wary, he did not know me as I was doing an Impact assesment on the farm and visited for the first time. He was very friendly though when I showed him the photos on the display screen.

Alison Stroebel   {K:4069} 5/11/2005
Ahh that explains the expression. He must have been delighted when he saw it. BTW I MUCH prefer the color, imho. YOu lose the lovely warmth of his skin in the b&w a pity. I would say.
