About I hesitated before putting this one up. The two drummers are not properly separated, there's more motion blur than I intended, and there's that photographer in the background. But I thought it might be worth giving you a closeup of one of the drummers.

Wonderful close-up of the drummer Roger. He is really concentrating on his art. It's another great view into the culture and the people of Japan. You show it well. Is this a special festival/event or is this type of celebration a common everyday occurence in Japan? Do you speak Japanese? Ok I'm nosy sorry...See you're pictures make me want to know more...:) Linda

Linda, drumming clubs exist for the fun of it and to give public performances. They are often linked to a shrine or temple (which also seek to maintain such traditions). This was an informal performance in a public park with a suitcase open for contributions. And yes, I do speak Japanese.

I like the shot.. nice capture, can almost feel the beat.. I like the photographer in the background as well.. I guess the only distraction is that the arm of the drummer in the front is blocking the face of the other drummer.. I like the facial expression on the drummer as well

It's certainly worth a look, Roger. This one emphasises the drummer's sheer concentration and effort.
Best regards, Chris

great shot Roger...and again thanks for the advice about 'film scanners' I ordered one this afternoon.
I thought you might like to see some photos I took last Sunday at White Plains Annual Cherry Blossom Festival....

Roger Williams   {K:84100} 5/11/2005
Your spring is obviously a little later than ours. I love the collage... including the little girl whose photo might well have been taken here, and the man of colour as a traditional drummer who probably COULDN'T have been taken here in Japan (!) Good luck with the scanner! What type did you get? If you run into problems, don't give up before asking for help!

Joe Ciccone   {K:3684} 5/11/2005
I ordered a
Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV Film Scanner .

Yes the little was was in a dance number and was really very good.

If I run into trouble I will give you a 'hollar'

thanks again

This drummer's face shows the strength needed to do this.

Maybe it's wrong of me to wonder if in another existence he might have led a "Banzai" charge? The dedication and enthusiasm are quite palpable.

Well caught, and the depth of field is well handled. Just shoot that stupid photographer in the backgroud wearing a RED shirt!!!
