Fabulous! I love the black and white tones and it has great lines. Overall, I'd say it has a very moody feeling to it and the title fits perfectly. :)

Dirck DuFlon   {K:35779} 5/13/2005
Don't be scared, Linda, and please don't cry! :)
This works well as an abstract (is it a banyan tree or something like that?) with it's sinewy (sp?) organic lines and a great range of tones. A little fuzzy, maybe, but really nice!

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/13/2005
Laurie thank you so much...your abstract work is wonderful and truly inspired me to try something, but it's really scary...thank you for your kind words....:) Linda

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/13/2005
Dirck...big hugs...thank you, :) :) ...Yes it's a tree with a very twisted shape and lots of bark patterns that are wonderful, I pretty much tried to eliminate all of that in PS, I got rid of the color as well, and just tried to focus the attention (I had some trouble doing that and keeping the image intact) on the segment that spoke to me...I'm honored by your words and kind critique thank you...:) Linda

Larry Fosse   {K:65815} 5/13/2005
You need not be afraid...you created a nice B&W presentation Linda

Roger Williams   {K:83282} 5/13/2005
I wonder in what sense this is an abstract? I suppose because you are abstracting details from a larger scene? But it is still quite recognisable. You might take your courage in both hands and go a little further away from the real world and create something even more mysterious and alluring. Go for it!

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/13/2005
Thanks Roger, do you see anything in it? I don't want to say what I see yet, just in case someone else sees what I saw...Let me know...:) Linda

Hanggan Situmorang   {K:37824} 5/14/2005
I love the soft touch in this picture, Linda, and I also saw the little man in the left hole, look like he's trying to get out....
Very nice abstract picture, my friend. Congrats!

Ned Ali   {K:11844} 5/14/2005
Actually I didn't know till I felt your tears on my shoulder!

this picture whispers a sad story .. even though i can't hear it .. I can see it.

well done for the B&W conversion.

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/14/2005
OHHH thank you Ned, you're very kind. Hugs....:) Linda

Excelente imagen: Muy sugerente

Roger Williams   {K:83282} 5/16/2005
Sorry, Linda. I can't see any little man in the left-hand hole. I was probably one of the last to see Christ's face in that famous photo of Andean snow slopes...

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/16/2005
LOL Roger....Gosh.. I probably am not very good at this abstract stuff. I thought I'd give it a try but I think it's back to the camera or drawing board on this one...I see on the left, a person standing and leaning with only head and arms (which aren't seen but imagined) as if he were crying into the first opening at the top mid to left section of the picture, his butt (sorry) is along the left (middle) part of the picture and his right leg is bent at the knee and touching at the bottom of the opening (the first one in the middle of the tree)..his left leg is straight...I guess we all see things and interpret them differently...it's a tree here on the grounds where I live and it has wonderful twists and turns with lots of detailed bark and I love it, but that's what I see everytime I see the tree..I appreciate you looking and I'll get a picture of it for you as soon as I get my wide angle lens....Hugs...:) Linda

Roger Williams   {K:83282} 5/16/2005
Nope. STILL can't see anything. How baffling! Reminds me of a photo a took of ivy or similar weed climbing up the side of a building. It looked for all the world like a great animal... But not everyone could see it. Argh!

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/16/2005
Well that's art...very subjective....I use the rule if I like it then that's enough for me...I know what you mean though...I think I'll stick with my macros and birds for now...I love chasing after birds..it's great fun..and I'm looking forward to the wide angle lens....:)

Roger Williams   {K:83282} 5/16/2005
Walking the dog this morning I noticed that someone had built a nesting site for the ducks that live along the stream that runs past our house, and that a duck had taken up residence in it. It's rather public, so I hope there are no attacks by vandals or (more likely) cats. But it should provide good photo opportunities even with my modest 135mm medium telephoto lens.

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/16/2005
I'll be looking forward to that Roger.. I love that kind of stuff and I hope they'll be safe as well, we do have a couple of stray cats and on a few occasions they've killed some of the baby ducks..but we all do our best to guard them...they're fun to watch, I'll be looking forward to your pictures...hugs...:) Linda

Angelo Villaschi   {K:49617} 5/16/2005
Linda,

After your explanation to Roger, I can see the "man" leaning towards the tree.

I also thought my mind "saw" a small figured all huddled and sad inside the dark are on the left.

You may even abstract the two dark areas as eyes on a really deformed (alien?) "face"... Can you see the "face" in this one: http://www.usefilm.com/image/491912.html ?

The difficulty with these abstracts is that differene people "see" different things, projecting their own feelings. So "difficult" works sometimes touch people in different ways. I think, from this effort, you should not be at all afraid.

Is the slight blur intentional?

Zeev Scharf   {K:24824} 5/16/2005
For your first abstract attempt, this is fabulous,
excellent composition Linda, the B|W effect is superb
Many thanks for so nice comments "Death sea panorama" and "little candle"I wanted to make an abstract shot of this flower and then noticed this tiny candle inside
Un fuerte abrazo

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/16/2005
Thank you Angelo for your kind and thoughtful critique...Yes, I see the two openings in the center as eyes as well, (hehehehe alien face) maybe they stole center stage here, grrrr.... I really had to crop it this way to keep out the grassy areas and try to isolate my subject. I did the blur to soften the roughness of the image because, I don't know, I just felt that it needed to be a soft and caring place for him to cry...wierd huh? Well there you go...hugs :):) Linda

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/16/2005
Gracias Zeev your words mean so much to me...kisses and hugs to you....:)linda

PAUL CZAJA   {K:2554} 5/17/2005
First your eyes find, then your heart/mind/soul embraces -- then your camera captures for us and asks us: "Do you see what I see?" Excellent photography, Linda -- keep celebraing your seeing!

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/17/2005
What beautiful words Paul, and how very kind and thoughtful of you...thank you so much for looking and for taking the time to comment....hugs to you.....:):)Linda

Den Thompson   {K:30432} 5/29/2005
On the front page again, many congrats, a shame that this bit has been missing part of the day, Nice abstract, when I was first on UF I had been trying to take some shots of my crystal - and dare not put them up, someone helpfully encouraged me and Iam glad they did, so never be afraid to try something different and give it an airing, and if you like it, or achieved something - that is what counts

Linda Bique   {K:74033} 5/29/2005
Thank you Margaret, so kind and encouraging. I do like this very much, and that's why I left it in my portfolio. Sometimes there are things probably that we all do that speak to us moreso or maybe louder than others and this is one of those for me..you are very sweet to make those comments and thank too I was a little confused for a minute...Hugs. Linda
