About This is one of the prettiest flowers I've seen in the UK. I think the common name is "Nero's Brother", an Iris, I believe. Please could someone confirm?

I have this flower in my back garden. It sure is a beautiful Iris.

The wife is not sure, but she thinks it's called a "Bearded Iris".

To me it's just one stunning image Steve. The detail is out of this world and you've DOF to maximum advantage. Great shot.

beautiful iris well captured with excellent light and no trace of wind...my iris's are finished but the wind was terrible so no major pics...but this is rich and sharp and beautifully composed...I am thinking about this lens...did you use it hand held?

Steve Tomkinson   {K:3225} 6/4/2005
Hi Leslie, yes this was hand-held. It was a bit windy, so the flower-head is a bit bent-over here.

I'm really happy with the 17-40L, I bought it for landscapes & it is really sharp at 17mm, a bit less so at 40mm. I borrowed a friends 16-35mm L, which is twice the price over here, and that seemed sharp at 35mm end but less so at 16mm. The 17-40 also seemed to resist lens-flare a bit better too, so it was a no-brainer for me. I guess people buy the 16-35 for indoors architecture where the F2.8 means you can use hand-held, where the F4 17-40 would need a tripod.

If you want I'll send you an original full-size jpeg of a landscape so you can have a look at it? My email is tommorules@ntlworld.com .

Regards
Steve.
