About The story of how a spotted lily leaf opens -- which is different than the solid colored leaves! (I didn't pose this one either, or do much PS.)

Thanks Mary! It seems the tropical waterlily leaves open this way but the regular waterlilies open from a single curl -- I just got the tropicals and it was the first time I had seen leaves open like that too.

Oh, my, this is so lovely. The curves are exquisite, and so is the composition. Beautiful!

Jan Graziano   {K:17902} 6/3/2005
Evelyn - this is wonderful! Love the unusual view - I imagine that it wouldn't have had the impact if you had shot it any way else. Jan

Don Loseke   {K:32503} 6/3/2005
Wonderful capture Evelyn. Colors and detail excellent. Have you thought about cropping the bottom third from this.?? Just a thought. Don.
I like this work very much. It is creative. Don.

Evelyn Mayes   {K:8132} 6/3/2005
YES, Don -- I had a cropped version in front of me and liked it too -- but thought the composition might be slightly better with the one I posted -- maybe not. Here it is -- what do you think? It is so hard to edit "good stuff" out, isn't it? Thanks for your comment and suggestion!

Cheryl Ogle   {K:24494} 6/4/2005
See, I learn something new every day! I'd never have guessed that they do this. Very cool the way the brown seems to swirl throughout the leaf.

Don Loseke   {K:32503} 6/4/2005
Hi Evelyn, yes I do like the cropped version. Sometimes it is hard to crop out something that looks good. When I look at a picture I let me eyes do the work. If they keep getting drawn to an area that is not the center of interest then as a rule you have to do something with that part of the picture, either darken, lighten or crop. Just my way of seeing things. Don.

Evelyn Mayes   {K:8132} 6/4/2005
Good "rule" to edit by -- Thanks Don!

Hi Ev - I like the cropped version better - the square looks more right somehow. Love the colors. I had no idea that tropicals and hardies opened their leaves in different ways. Amy

This is a wonderful shot Evelyn.Very powerful and dramatic. The way the spots emphasise the scrolled leaf is superb. And the inclusion of the flower but in the background is a master stroke as it gives additional impact to the scene. Excellent (if somewhat phallic!) shot!
