Larry thanks for the comments here is the way u do it using photoshop or photoshop element
step one : open the photo go under layer menu under new and choose layer via copy and then press B to get the brush tool then press D to set the foreground to black and begin painting on the pic as u paint the color in the photo will be removed. the goal is to paint away the color from all the areas except the area you want to keep with colors
