About "These flowers, which were splendid and sprightly, waking in the dawn of the morning, in the evening will be a pitiful frivolity, sleeping in the cold night's arms".
Pedro Calderon de la Barca

From my cactus collection. These flowers, almost as big as the plant itself.. bloom once a year, with an average life of just few hours!

Gerry Vincent   {K:3154} 6/6/2005
Excellent composition and colours. This cactus is very different from what you find in the South West of the U.S. It does not seem to have any spines. Is this typical of the Cacti in Pakistan?

Cheers
Gerry

Just a few hours?? That's not fair but it is beautiful. The frame looks very good. Humayun, You must have an impressive collection cause I've never seen before this cactus before. Very interesting "leaves". I'd like to know the name. My mom has the kind that produces red flowers I think. Some kind of a Christmas cactus? Anyway she's really excited about that plant. Its blooms don't last much either.

Humayun Rizwan   {K:3223} 6/16/2005
Thanks Lily, for the comments. In fact most of the cactus flowers doesn't last very long.. and they are so delicate and beautiful in sharp contrast to all those thorns. I have about 50 different varieties.. collected over the years from different countries. I don't rememebr the exact name of this one.. I brought from Bangkok. You're right the "leaves" are very interesting.. just like rectangular buttons! Attached is another one.. for you! It's a local variety. I had it for almost a year.. then one day while going to office I noticed all these beautiful flowers bloom out of nowhere.. took some shots an by the time I returned in the evening.. they were gone!
I hope your mom likes it too.
Cheers

Good composition and feeling,
Nice flora shot, focus and DOF are well done.
I think if you increased contrast and balanced colors level, your shot could be better.
I reworked on your shot, hope you like it,
This is just my opinion no other thing,
Thanks for sharing.
