About The view from my son's dorm. Home away from home. He was lucky enough to have the company of this nice oak tree with it's coloured leaves in the fall, snow cover in the winter and this spring-time foilage.
I have softened this image on purpose, to give it a little bit of a dreamy melted look.

This is one of my favorite kinds of shots... shadowed interior and lit outdoors. It makes me wish I was there!

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 6/12/2005
Thanks Denise,
I'm glad you like it. I think the nostalgia comes through in this kind of a set-up. I took this photo on my son's last day there before coming home for the summer.

great composition.

Hi Andre,

nice contrast here between shadow, light and colors.

best wishes,

Thilo

Nice creative idea, and it does have that slightly dreamy feel to it. I actually just did a photo that feels very dreamy, but I PSed the heck out of it to make it so.

But great job on this one, although it feels a little odd bacause of the composition, I think if the window were centered in the middle and there was a black edge on either side, it would look even better... what do you think?

Thanks for your comment on my image, and I agree about it being too dark on the bottom half, although the only way I could fix it would be to crop it off, and I liked the composition too much to do that. :)

Thank you Jose,

Thanks Thilo,

I thought the darkness of the window pane frames helped to give a bit of a depth perspective to the image.

Hi Kevin,
I considered cropping this to make it more central and symmetrical, but decided against posting it that way because I thought it might look too sterile and tight around the window. I did straighten it out about 1 degree ccw.

The image that I just put in "Urning The Corner" has the opposite problem to the one you posted (slightly dark on the bottom) mine was slightly dark on the top. If you want to try lightening the bottom of that image, you could lasso the area to select the dark parts and then adjust to suit. The changes can't be too drastic though because it would show up looking manipulated. Also someone here advised me to use the burn tool with a low percentage setting to get rid of some types of shadows. This was in B&W though. You could try and see what happens anyway.

Very beautiful shot Andre, I was going to comment on the composition too, but read you reply to Kevin, and it makes perfect sense, very beautiful work!

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 6/13/2005
Thanks Fadel,
I'm glad my explanation made some sense. Sometimes it is hard to explain things when so many people see things differently.
BTW congratulations on making the front page just now! (for one of your critiques)

Hey Andre, yes and what makes things worse is that people's monitors are different too, so they might not be seeing what you intend to show. Thanks for the congratulations, I just wish we have control over which images to show in these occasions :)

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 6/13/2005
Hi Fadel, Yes... I have been just following your comments on your "Beautiful Day" image. It is a perfect example. It may have not been seen by everyone exactly as you intended to be seen. It looks great on my monitor BTW.
Andre
