About PASSION FLOWERS

Art thou a type of beauty, or of power,
Of sweet enjoyment, or disastrous sin?
For each thy name denoteth, Passion flower!
O no! thy pure corolla's depth within
We trace a holier symbol; yea, a sign
'Twixt God and man; a record of that hour
When the expiatory act divine
Cancelled that curse which was our mortal dower.
It is the Cross!
- Sir Aubrey de Vere,
A Song of Faith--Devout Exercises and Sonnets--The Passion Flower

I go off UF for a short while and look what you go and do! All these superb shots! I won't have time to comment on them all right now but rest assured I love them! This one in particular caught my eye for the detail of the stamens and the lovely soft muted colours (and the fact that the Passion Flower is possibly one of my favourite flowers ;-) ).
Superb photo Alison!

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:86546} 6/20/2005
Excellent macro, dear Alison. We have this flower here also, growing on hedges and beside enjoying its beauty, we used to suck its sweet nectar.
Thank you for your very kind comments on my "Grinch", my "Our window" and my "33a' Frischmann Street"
Some further information: Etzel was the acronym of "National Military Organization" and not as stated. Its commander, Begin, was looked for by the British but never caught. Very much later he became our first non-left-wing Prime Minister and was the first to reach a peace agreement with an Arab country, Egypt. The commander of "Lehi", Yair Stern was discovered by the British in his hiding place and shot dead.
Quite a few members of "Etzel" and "Lehi" were executed by the British. These executions diminished considerably after "Etzel" kidnapped two British sergeants and hanged them. When the state of Israel was established, one of its first acts was to abolish capital punishment and except Eichmann, who was accused of crimes against humanity, nobody was executed here.
Best regards,
Rafi

i have to say, i dont think i've ever seen one of these before, and i've seen some strange flowers. nice colours and interesting species of flower. the colours certainly describe the title aptly.

PS: i havent been on the site for awhile alison, but did you change your name? apologies for being nosy....

Alison DuFlon   {K:36231} 6/26/2005
Yes James I did switch my name to my maiden name, which I always used artistically with my drawings. I keep my ex's name until the kids are grown for school purposes. Thank's for noticing. Alison
