Great composition , colours and a superb moody sky !! well done sally .. cheers .. mark .

Jim Goldstein   {K:21230} 6/20/2005
Beautiful photo. I think you might be able to get away with cropping the tree on the left edge as the sky above it is dark and not much is there to keep the viewers eye for long. I think cropping that section of your image really helps keep the focus squarely on the right most tree and the amazing background. Just a thought. Wonderful scene.

Enas Moussa   {K:7470} 6/20/2005

Hi Jim - thanks for the honest feedback! I did try a range of different crops - I'll have another go in PS and see if I can make it better.

Recent quote by Sally Morgan: "I'm not a big fan of landscapes, and I definately don't have either the patience or the talent for them."

Erm, either this comment needs revising or this wonderful landscape is not yours! That sky is so powerful and contrasts beautifully with the peaceful greens and yellows.

AJ

A lovely dramatic shot, Sally. I havent seen a landscape this good for a long time.

Sally Morgan   {K:9219} 6/22/2005
I like creature comforts, I like central heating and warm cars and shopping in covered centres.
Landscape photographers like landscapes - they enjoy them. They get up at 3am, hike for an hour and a half in the pouring rain up a hill with a mass of heavy gear on. Then they sit for hours, all cold, and with no feelings in their extremeties - just waiting for that split second when a shaft of sunlight shines through the clouds (or so it seems).
This was just a snapshot taken as we were unpacking the car - the original is pants (attached) - I just spent a while playing with it in PS. My mum liked it - which is why I posted it, but I really don't get any pleaseure out of the photo - I don't have any feeling for it, whereas pictures of my sister or pretty bugs, or cats, or neat effects with CDs and water do interest and fascinate me.
I guess as they say - it would be boring if we were all the same :)

Hey... I thought you said you never left the garden? And then you go and do this!!! Fantastic Sally... those skies are superb! Excllent composition with the diagonally sloping hills adding drama to the image. Well done!!!

Sally Morgan   {K:9219} 6/25/2005
I've put the wrong location on it!
This is the garden of our cottage in the Mallerstang Valley!

Gregory McLemore   {K:25403} 6/27/2005
Incredible beauty captured, luscious and lovely, very well done.

Angelo Villaschi   {K:49617} 6/29/2005
Sally,

I like the work you did with Photoshop, the equivalent of proper "printing" a photo taken with film, by a printer that know what he's doing. Only much easier to achieve!

I read what you said about not having any feeling for this shot. You should listen to your mum :)

Len Webster   {K:22393} 6/30/2005
Lovely. Your portfolio is very good.

Kunal Mehta   {K:2484} 7/6/2005

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 7/10/2005
Hi Slly, spectacularly dramatid and moody image. The sky is outright frightening. Nice touch with the light, crisp greens and yellows in the field in front. Beautiful.

Cheers,

hugo

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 7/10/2005
A fine transformation from the original, Sally!!
I'm impressed with your portfolio ~ as someone who's just bought their first SLR. As someone with two D70's I think you made a good choice.
The one slight flaw I see in this image is the light fringe in the sky where it touches the mountains and corresponding lighter patches in amongst the trees. Not easy to get around, but a larger feather on your selection might have helped. Just a thought.
Kind regards and thanks for your comment!
Chris

Wow Sally, this is a great landscape.
Congrats.

Carsten Ranke   {K:14453} 8/21/2005
I could not resist to comment, despite your lack of enthusiasm for landscapes (a pity, yes). Had to laugh reading your description of a landscape photographer, I hope I dont end up this way :-) I love landscapes, but (no early bird, and not much time) 99% of my landscapes are by-product of a walking or biking tour, with minimal gear.

John Beavin   {K:4477} 8/25/2005
Lovely landscape Sally, I Read your query about I S O settings, A low iso needs a lot more light than a high one and is good for really bright sunny days, on those overcast days iso !00 or even 200 is better, leave the 400 and above for the really dark days. My camera is usually set to 200 and I shoot mostly on aperture priority. You have a good camera there and to get the most out of it read a few books. By the way I know Preston pretty well, lived in Ashton and Fullwood for a couple of years. Cheers.

Hello Sally. I wish to thank you for your comment on the "Honey Bee" to answer your question I shot that pic at 640 her wings must have been going like crazy. This photograph I like for the color contrast. The forground middle ground and the sinister looking background. Good job.

Regards,

Tom

György Szönyi   {K:8347} 10/28/2005
Beautiful classic landscape, Sally! I find that the most beautiful landscapes are done with Nikon D70s. You seem to handle yours very well. Best: György
