About Pushing my magnification - This is a beetle on the bottom of a thistle flower bulb.

1960s MF Nikon macro, 2X extender, 4X filter. Bright daylight.

Anyone know what kind of beetle this is? There are zillons living in the flower bulbs.

Lorenzo - that was probably the quickest "upload to favorite" usefilm experience for me - 5 minutes?

Glad you enjoy the shot. It's a semi, rule of thirds composition with some really nice geometry. I took about 300 shots and this was one of the better ones.

Very good image ..

Hi Michael! Great colour and great play with the dof. Excellent captured of the beetle and the bright colour background really make it stand out. Good work!

Excellent composition, Mike. Great DOF, too. I'm very impressed by your macros. You do great work. Looking forward to your future photos.

Thanks - this shot and the ladybug are two of my current personal favorites.

Michael, you have some great stuff here in your portfolio and I hope I'm not going to hurt your feelings but your color seems to be really off on a lot of your pics. Way too much yellow. Have you changed contrast and settings in the camera?

Jim

James:

No alteration, no correction - lots of yellow in these latest batches, and some yellow tones in the others.

These recent prints were all shot midafternoon in KS - definitely going to be yellow, even with the white point set for bright sunlight.

Even on the calibrated monitor I could see the yellows, but set to a flat white point a lot of them were boring and lacked some warmth of summer.

If you look at the winter shots you will see more blue and purple casts, I think I tend to change my tones with the seasons. Probably not to everyone's liking.

No feelings to hurt... keep on posting critical suggestions. I just calibrated the monitor recently, but I can go through and do it again...

Another great macro of yours Michael, I've read your article about the rule of thirds which was fantastic! Regarding the colors, I agree that there's extra yellow, but it doesn't look like a cast on my monitor, the greens are natural.

i love the yellow color and shape of the thistles; looks like sun 'rays' or sunflower. great image.
