Colour treatment is almost Dali which for me adds a certain tension to the apprehension in the image which on the face of it is very tranquil. Too tranquil in fact for reality and hence my reference to Dali. The flat drab green of the wall blank and expressionless in the face of the beauty of nature all around.. manmade alienation from nature rampant in dull green....its not that long a bow to draw Munch's Scream in here but as an opposite, here the scream is silenced by the sense of expectation that broods in the fading, frail light of afternoon as it slides graciously to dusk. Lovely sense of seeing an opportunity here John well done (as usual)I dont want to be boring and say a welcome return to form cos that sometimes breeds resentment but these sorts of images from you John, are in my view, amongst your best.

Whatever that features is, I like it. Good job in not bringing out the highlights too far - the overall shades are a good tone for an evening shot.

Hi John, great shot. And as you know one of my favourite places. The Otago Harbour Yes, I've probably been on it, in it, under it, cursed by it, abused by it, loved it etc more than anyone else here on Usefilm. Windsurfing here was my passion and i miss that. Sailed several times from the heads back to Dunedin. Always difficult getting past the island at Port Chalmers but a great adventure. Miss that. Thanks for bringing back the memories. I repeat... Great shot.

I know how much work that must be, John. Forgive me if I find the flat light on the side of the boathouse rather a giveaway for CS-PS, i.e., not QUITE convincing. But I think you've mastered the technique--I've seen some quite awful results, flat and artificial looking. It's obviously not a simple function to use effectively. Maybe you can write a short article on it when we have an articles section again...

Good work John. It works really well then in the CS2. Worth having then, apart from having to use a tripod. It gives an erie feeling to the scene.

Haven't been to your portfolio for a while John. This is the first image I've seen that uses the HDR facility. It's a great composition and the light's fantastic but it does look very digital, almost plastic with no apparent texture to anything, particularly on the wooden pillars and the building. It's the same effect I see when digital images have their saturation increased or are printed beyond 300dpi. It will be interesting to see if you can get better results as you get to grips with the technology. In the meantime, it's a heck of a picture but perhaps undermined by the limitations of the capture medium.

Hi again John. I'm enjoying looking through your images. They're great and its cool to see how differently someone else can capture my places! I've photographed this particular boat shed a couple of times but never in good light conditions. This is much better than my efforts!
