About Taken yesterday at Bok Sanctuary. I have no idea what kind of snake this is. It didn't really seem all that concerned that I was taking its picture.

P.J.,
I don't know if I'd say it's a nice feeling...

I think I would have felt a little more comfortable if I was 100% sure that the snake wasn't dangerous. Although he was pretty small and all coiled around those little weeds so I figured I was reasonably safe.

Excellent wildlife capture Laurie..so neat that you were able to get such a close up of the face, and that interesting composition as well...Love the detail in his face, very well done...I'm a little behind again, played outside yesterday....:):)Linda

Good shot Laurie... could you give me your comments on the Canon 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM? sorry if I ask this here... thanks

Luca,
I'm really happy with the 28-135 lens. I was able to purchase it used through b&h and it was in perfect condition (I saved about $100). The USM does take some getting used to and sometimes it doesn't focus on what I want it to. I upgraded from the kit lens (18-55mm) and there is no comparison in the quality. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well done Laurie. Great colour and detail, especially around the head. Kind regards.

Oh gosh, Laurie. I think I would want to know what kind of snake I was getting that close to...I hope you had your zoom way out :-) Good color and detail! Well done! Regards and thanks for the recent commnet on my silhouette, Larry.

Now I have to admit this isn't my favourite shot in your portfolio... Not because of anything wrong with the photo, just that I don't like snakes! Actually more than that, I have a phobia about them!Having said that, technically this is very good. It does seem that a bit more DOF would have been beneficial to maintain sharpness over all the snake (can't believe I'm saying that I want more detail on the snake!) but other than that its faultless. Great shot (and now I'm off for a stiff drink!)

Alastair,
You can't be afraid of a little old snake! I just think of them as lizards without the legs. I guess I'm not one to talk--I have my own list of phobias--clowns being at the top of the list. I can't even look at a clown without getting freaked out!

Anyway, thanks for the comment. You're right, it probably could use more dof, but I wasn't being too picky. I didn't know when he'd slither away so I had to be quick.

Enjoy that drink! :)
