About This is the start of a mini series of prospects of modern Tokyo. Here you see part of the Fuji TV building. It:s a kind of modern icon.

Dear Roger, Good idea (since Tokyo's so big it will be nice to see all that's usually missed) Very nice composition and detail on the shot. Very well done, Mark

Roger I like all three of the modern Tokyo shots, I think this is my favourite. It is really different - almost looks as though it could be a set of a space film.
Margaret
Thanks for the comment and welcome back

The lines are intriquing. Great use of the light and shadows. Wonderful shot.

Without a tilt-shift lens, getting the verticals to behave themselves properly might be an impossible task. I would suggest choosing the most dominant real-life vertical line (e.g. the one in the centre) and aligning it at 90 degrees.

Roger Williams   {K:84100} 7/1/2005
Well, Matej, I hope to get a shift lens for my Kiev 88, so perhaps this problem will become a thing of the past. I am quite cross with myself for not spotting the need to align the central vertical. My only excuse is that the scan involved much more despotting than normal and I was anxious to be done with it...

Here is a straightened version of one of the ones you found crooked. This has been rotated half a degree and tilted half a degree. Amazing what a half degree difference can make. You have a very good eye for this, Matej.

Roger, Thanks for this educational series. The unusual futuristic architecture reminded me of Bladerunner the movie. Excellent picture that shows a Japan I'm not familiar with. Is it noise that I am seeing in the sky area? I had also thought there was a very slight tilt to the right but could not confirm it in PS. I do like the straightened version though. Good job.

Impressing ! And well done too, a really fine set odf architectural works.

Roger Williams   {K:84100} 7/6/2005
I'm afraid that IS noise in the sky, Lily. I've since found out how to select the sky area and use either Guassian blur or the dust and scratch filter to reduce noise in such blank areas. I usually shoot 400 ISO in summer and 800 through the late autumn to spring. Skies are where the grain shows!

Extraordinary building, Roger!
makes me want to reach up and put a giant O in the middle square!!
Best regards, Chris

Great stuff! The modern city is worth photographing - it's a way to be neutral about it... This shot is comparable with the inner workings of a computer or some similar electronic thing...
