About The is the state flower of Minnesota. It is in the Orchid Family, so don't believe all that cold weather junk you here about us ;-)
My friend Steve told me about this group and where to find them. They are growing right along side of the freeway.
This is my first series of shots with this flower as I have never seen it before !

Excellent shot of the ladyslipper, Jim! We have them here, but there's not many, and I think they're protected, so it's nice to get a shot of one. The water droplets add interest.
Dave.

THanks for your comments, yes grandchildren are such fun, she had six adults at her beck and call and sure made the most of it :) and when we ate out, any waiter who got near was given the big blue eyes treatment

Seems the 'in' thing at the moment is to show subjects others have never seen before Jim. Tit for tat here. I've never seen one of these B4 either. What a gorgeous flower and you've captured it with your usual high quality. My congratulations!! Hard to believe they grow wild at the roadside.

thanks for your comment on the Lady Slipper. This group grows by the wayside, although this is the only group that does in this area. They have to have certain conditions, wet but not too wet, sun but not too much sun. I stopped there on the way home and shot some more images. as I was leaving , a guy stopped to talk to me. He was emplyed by the environmental Protection agency, and told me he has watched this bunch of flowers for 12 years. I think he had a concern about what I might be doing. I ended up sending him some images to use in a powerpoint presentation where he will stress how nature fights for survival. After all these flowers are in a ditch where Snowmobiles and ATV's run. there is a deep tire track right next to the flower, but it was missed.
Very interesting indeed.

Fabulous capture Jim, the orchids really are a beautiful plant. And unless you know where to look you can very easily miss them.

Best wishes,
Steve
