Marilyn had just sent you a reply to your question when I saw this one, and I think I may have gone over the background with the burn tool,- so have just gone over this quickly with the burn tool, no layers or anything, to show you the effect - another idea that might be useful

What a pleasant surprise on opening this image Marilyn. My immediate response was that you've achieved a 3D effect. That's what the colour contrast and DOF are doing for me. Wonderful.
