It's a perfect classic presentation, but I guess I'd like the frame to be equally perfectly classic ie. with the two vertical bands... AJ

Excellent image Mary. I can see you put a lot of time and thought into this composition. I can see an evolution in your images, an emerging sophistacation and exploration of your artistic sense. I see a side of yourself that is awakening in this medium that may not have had a chance to flower before? Can I be so bold as to state such from so brief an association thru Usefilm? Never the less it is what I feel, right or wrong. Bob

Bob, thank you so much. I am pleased that you think I am improving in my new hobby of photography. Oh, you bold man, you. Feel free to say whatever you like. As far as a creative side; photography is certainly a different medium for me and I am thoroughly enyoying it. With a few other things I've done before, people have been kind enough to say they found my results creative, so perhaps it is not new, just re-emerging. Take care, Mary

Roger, which program do you use? I now have PS 7 so that's what I have been trying to use excusively in order to get used to it. Here's what I did. I know there has got to be a way easier method to isolate the rose, but I don't know that, yet. --I outline the rose as closely as possible with the lasoo tool. (sp) --Edit-Copy. File-New and opened a new background in plain black. ---Edit-Paste --Moved the rose to wherever on the page --this is where it got tedious and needed patience. As I said there has got to be a much easier way to isolate the rose for copying. Anyway, with the pasted in rose came some of the background from the original picture. I made sure I was on the rose Layer and used the Background Eraser tool at 100% and various brush sizes to erease all the bits from the edges of the rose. Don't do too much at a time. If you get a lot ereased and then slip into the rose and have to start that one brushing over, it's not good. I hope this is clearer than mud. Other programs would have similar features. If you don't understand something I said, just ask and I'll try to clarify. Take care, Mary =

Dear Mary, I have PS7 too, although I still know PSP better and therefore prefer it. I think I can follow your description but it DOES sound like a lot of work. One thing in PS that works a lot better than PSP is the magic lasso (?sp). That can select a background colour right up to the edge of your foreground object if there is sufficient colour contrast between them. I would be tempted to try that rather than paint stuff out... but what do *I* know?

Ah, Roger, my good man, I knew there was some easier way to extract an object--because what I did was a lot of work and PS is supposed to make these things fairly easy. I just don't know the program well at all and am picking up hints and tips as I go along. Thanks so very much for your suggestion. Mary
