About Subject background: A silhouette of Manhattan versus a sheet metal hut. Well, some starting bird gang was kind enough to offer some action. =)

PS concept: You may get the idea that I colorized the hut. This is not the case. The effect is done with a background layer blended with hard lights. no change on the colors. Hope you like the outcome and my weird view.

Hello Thilo, I think it's a splendid cityscape, a beautiful composition with some metallic colour tones, my rate is 7, congratulations.
Peppino.

hi, very different and refreshing cityscape view than i have seen for NYC...good DOF and depth...i like the contrast of the little green hut vs. the reflective silver sheen of the cityscape buildings...i would put this in famous places,or cityscapes or whatever the project name is for this scenic...my understanding of silhouettes is that they are the dark outlines of objects or people,so perhaps another project would be more suitable...hugs,gayle

Cool composition with the little green house and all those steel buildings in the background! The little house sure stands out! =)

You say silhouettes... I say, hmm...

:)

Very pleasant view of the Big Apple, Thilo. I like the vantage point you chose.

As Danny Brannigan would say: do you take that flock of trained birds with you everywhere?

The one strange thing I have noticed is that the foreground shadows are quite dar, but the background shadows have some detail in it. Different contrast applied?

Also, a couple of the far buildings have gained a sort of solid and patternless surface. I am not familiar enough with this view IRL to know if that is what they look like or a side effect from the blended layer work.

Hi Thilo,

First of all, thanks for your brief note in the forum... Back to more important things, this image shows a very strong composition, and an interesting layered scene. Great balance. As to the colourisation, I didn't notice that, and even after a second, closer look, it doesn't really strike me as unusual. It's the rather subdued tones, and possible lack of crispness, that provides (part of-) the atmosphere in this shot, and pulls it out of the ordinary.

Very good shot, and perhaps your strongest / most subtle post processings ever (or is it maybe because I've missed too much of your work over the past few months....;))

Cheers,

Hugo

Yes, I definitely like the outcome; very good work! Nice to see that birds still like the Big Apple :)

Andre Denis   {K:55471} 7/6/2005
Hi Thilo,
I like the silvery tones of the buildings and the perspective of the dock and water. But, I am going to go against the grain of the praise in most of the comments and say that I think the birds actually clutter up the scene :( Sorry, but that is my honest opinion. I suppose it is just my taste, but to me the scene would be far more appealing without the birds and the green shack for that matter. Maybe you will disagree, but try to visualize the image without the green hut or the birds in it.
Maybe I am missing the point?
Andre

It is a great capture Thilo and I do like your thinking in this. Of course the skyline would be always be striking, but with the inclusion of the hut and the birds it makes it more interesting :-)

Best wishes,
Steve
